I just got 285/70r17 Cooper stt Pros put on yesterday. Everything is great, almost no rubs, no trimming, no cmc. I have just a very slight rub on the frame at full lock.

What size spacers for you recommend? 1.25" so I can gusset the spindles later if needed?

    Specs:
    SPC UCAs
3.5° caster with the upper bj set on +2° caster
    5100s on lowest notch
    887 coils
    Stock TRD sport 17s

    Here's where it's rubbing:

I hope someone can reply to this because I have the same truck, but it's a 2007. I'm looking to do the same lift and tire size as you.
From what I've been looking at a lot of people say they put 1.25" spacers and had no rubbing. But this could be different for everyone so I'm just hoping that I don't have any rubbing once I go this route.

I've driven it a few more times at have another small rub on a wheel liner when the suspension compresses. I haven't had a chance to trim yet, but I will soon.

I decided to order 1.25" spacers in case I ever get spindle gussets. I'll let you know if I rub more in other places with the spacers.

Alright, thanks. This will help me see what all I need to do when I get to that point.

Hopefully, all of your rubbing goes away! :fingerscrossed:

Sorry for the delay, I had a bad wheel bearing so I wanted to replace it before I added the spacers so I wouldn't have to take the spacers off and mess with the lock-tite again. So here's an update.

I added 1.25" spidertrax just in case I ever get spindle gussets. That way I don't need to buy different spacers. I now rub the rear inner fender liner when sitting in my driveway turning the wheel (Rub is only on one side). It's no surprise that I'm rubbing my wheel base is now 1.25" wider.... Therefore I'll definitely have to trim the at least one side. From the looks of things I'll also need to do a CMC if I ever off-road (which I will).

Now....I say "one side" for a reason. The side I'm rubbing does not have the caster maxed out on the LCAs. Meaning that I could adjust my LCAs and move the wheel forward in the wheel well. It's possible that doing so may eliminate my need to do a CMC....However, I think I'm going to do a CMC anyway. I have the plates and a welder so might as well. For those of you who aren't familiar with the LCA adjustment here's what I'm referencing:

"If you want to add more positive caster, you would rotate the front cam “shorter” and the rear cam “longer.” " taken from this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-do-an-alignment-at-home.252256/

I highly suspect that anyone with Stock TRD Sport wheels could run 285/70r17s without a CMC (and offroad their truck) if they ran a less aggressive spacer and had a good alignment.

Here's a reference on where I'm planning on trimming the fender:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-wheel-well-trimming.46280/

    Hope that helps.

Well, I’m going with a similar set up but I won’t be able to put it all together until after the Christmas. But once I get it on I’ll let you know how mine goes. I’ll probably end up doing the CMC also.

    Thanks for all the information.

    No problem, hopefully it helps.

Here's a photo of the side that isn't close to rubbing on the street. I'm sure once I get off road it'll be a different story.

Finally got my lift and 285s installed. Thankfully I had no rubbing at all, but if I was to hit a bump at full lock I would definitely rub. I will try to get some pictures later.

What tires? Still the stock Sport wheels? Also curious where you would rub.

I went with some cheaper tires.
They are called Thunderer Trac Grip M/T.
    Size 285/70/17

And yes I still have the stock Sport wheels.

I'll try to get some pictures up later today or tomorrow to show you where I would rub.

And btw my wheel spacers are 1.5" I got sent the wrong size and just kept them.

I spoke way too soon about rubbing.

What I have circled in red was the main rubbing I got mid-turn.
I have cut part of this off at an angle.

In yellow is where I rub at full lock.

I did some trail riding this weekend before doing any trimming and overall I'm pretty happy about how little rubbing there was considering this is the most technical thing i would do in this truck.
I would still like to do a CMC someday in the future but for now I think I'll be fine

Wut! I didn't realize how similar our trucks were! DCLB, Similar CB antenna placement, flag, etc. Looks good!

One of the most common places to rub is where your red circle is. That was the first place I trimmed after I got the spacers. Before spacers I think it would have been fine. I did a CMC just because I can weld, had the plates, and thought it might be a good idea. Yours looks further from the cab mount, but once you compress your suspension it may touch a lot more.

I have a bolt to plug the hole in the grommet above your red circle, and over the weekend while I was deer hunting I guess I was turning while my suspension was compressing and snagged the bolt. Now it's bent up and needs some persuasion to be moved back in place. You might find that even after trimming, you will need to go back and trim some more later....I've had to do a couple rounds of it.

    Here's my bolt:

Haha yeah kinda cool how similar they are!

Yeah, when my suspension is compressed a little the tires rub the cab mount a significant amount but everyday driving not at all. I'll keep an eye on mine to see if it starts doing anything else. I might have to do some more trimming later but im glad I went with 33's/285s gives it a much meaner stance and just makes the truck look better in my opinion.
