I just spoke to my boss and I'm likely being sent home because I'm sick. I just gotta wait for them to figure out who's going to take my place.

Plug an play just a piggyback harness for 2nd gens be useless to you since 3rd gen has projextors get hid or led an your golden.
Just a piggyback harness to stock which is able to increase power to the haolgen bulbs for a tundy not sure if one is compatible.

So, is the Ultimate mod better than HIDs, or is that pretty much unknown, or totally subjective "feels"?

Should be. Tundras and tacos use the same bulb in the headlight

I don't see why the 3rd Gen would be immune to such an upgrade. The projectors are just a bonus and would be a huge enhancement.

Imho i feel leds with proper housing an cutoff is better its what your prefer. I really like this halogen setup since its what I already have an dont have the funds for led w/ housings.

Read the thread. There is empirical evidence generated by instrumentation and consistent methodology.

I just figured it would be a mute point since led/hid setups have a piggyback ballast...Im not a light expert by anymeans just backwoods logicial.

I'm not either by any means, but there is a lot of educational information in that thread. In short, the design of the headlight is of primary importance when projecting light. A halogen reflector isn't going to focus the light of a LED/HID properly, so while a LED/HID is going to be bright, the light itself will be scattered and not have the projection needed or advertised. Hence upgrading the halogen bulb and harness to deliver the proper wattage.

To make LED/HID work as they're supposed to, projectors are needed. So for 2nd Gens, that requires a retrofit and therein lies a lot of variables e.g. quality of materials, HID/LED, construction, etc. It's a pain and much more expensive than 85w (or whatever) bulbs and a harness.

3rd Gens have projectors but use halogen bulbs, or at least some do. So they're in a better position to benefit from HID/LED, but the ultimate headlight mod will work for them as well with perhaps superior results because 3rd Gens have OEM projectors and not aftermarket of varying and questionable quality.

The guy's comparisons of headlights and fog lights are invaluable. His lighting threads have been my go-to source on lighting not only for these trucks but in general.
