Ordered some items off of Amazon for recovery gear as I plan to do some adventuring in the snowy mountains this winter!
Anybody have any insight on my current selection? Look good or should I swap for something else or add anything else?

Is the hitch receiver strong enough to hold our trucks? It’s rated at 4.75 tons so that comes out to 9500lbs. Will the weight increase on the shackle receiver the same way it does on the strap?

Just learning with all this recovery gear so please be patient with me:D
It was $75 for all this gear due to them having 10% off if you purchase 3 or more items form them.

    Thanks!

Upon learning that the strap is a towing strap and not designed to “snatch” recover, I cancelled it and went with this:

Ultimate Tow Recovery Strap 35000lb - Recover Your Vehicle Stuck in Mud/Snow - Heavy Duty 3" x 20' Winch Snatch Strap - Protective Loops, Water-Resistant - Off Road Truck Accessory - Bonus Storage Bag https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZZBGFYV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_uYd.Bb4QP2XQ3

I still kept the receiver and shackle.

    Welcome to TW.

We all have to start somewhere, and we all don't have the budget to buy "the best" right off the bat. Buy the best you can afford and put it to use. If it doesn't work for you or fails, then buy something better. Just don't get yourself in a position where the tool's failure will leave you stranded; i.e., don't go wheeling by yourself.

Reviewers seem to like the products. I'm sure they'll work just fine.

Get a real shovel. Go to Lowes or any home improvement store.

Understandable, it’s always nice to get a thumbs up though from someone who has more experience in a certain realm. Thank you!

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
Buy a real shovel. A D handle or forest service shovel should fit in the bed just fine. You will also need a way to connect the strap to another vehicle. I’d also suggest mud and snow rated tire chains.

Agree 1000% get a full length shovel...if you have to dig under your axle with a dinky shovel your going to get very frustrated. You will be on your hands and knees most likely in mud/snow.

The Rhino products are good stuff. There's tons of good reviews on them and articles covering the reliability of their products. You're not going to go wrong with them.

For the snatch strap, keep in mind the snatch strap is only good for vehicle to vehicle pulling. If you wanted to winch with a hilift the strap will stretch through the whole range of the hilift movement before the vehicle starts getting pulled.

I threw a hilift recovery strap in my kit for this reason. It's polyester and has a 2% stretch (as opposed to a 10% for a nylon strap) so it's good for winching with a hilift and can be used to recover vehicles.

Towing with a snatch strap can cause strap failure. Every time the strap stretches the molecules move apart, it takes time for them to regain the original integrity. Repeated stretching over a short period of time may cause failure. Fine for short distance but I would not recommend for several miles.

It’s not always obvious, but it has been said, and bears repeating. A strap is ONLY useful if you have another vehicle. I know it sounds obvious, but I’ve seen a few people driving alone “but they had a recovery kit with a strap” and they get stuck, break out the strap, THEN the lightbulb goes on, lol.

So, if you drive alone, get a winch, or some type of winch device, a come along at least, better yet a hi-lift as that can be used for many things.

I 2nd he idea of a full sized shovel, or at least one of those shorter gardening shovels. Those folding shovels are great for soldiers on foot who need to dig a foxhole, but if you have a truck, bring a bonafide shovel. You have the space, it’s a pickup truck.
