Hi all - I'm looking for a more off road tire look once it's time to replace my current ones. I know nothing (like Jon Snow) about tires, but I am not looking to lift my truck and am mpg, noise, and longevity conscious. My local shop suggested the Kelly Edge AT 265/65R17 112T OWL Highway / Off-Road tire. Is this good advice? Should I consider another tire?

I would get on tire rack or discount tire online, grab some Baileys and coffee, and search reviews on those sites.

Good luck. I’m sure you will get plenty of opinions shortly.

    Like, so many.
You can do a 265/70/17 without a lift or modifications. Look at Falken Wildpeak, BFG KO2, Nitto Ridge Grappler.

I had the BFG ruggeds before I switched to my BFG AT. They were a hybrid between a good road/offroad tire. So I'd recommend getting those at like discount tire or something.

All train tires and MPG and Noise. Well , they go together like oil and water.

LAst friday I put on some Michelin Defender LTX's. I know they dont have the aggresive look you are looking for but they are a solid tire.

I would just go with Cooper Discover AT3 if I was in your boat.

Conflicting goals. You either pick one or the other, or compromise.

If your second set of goals is the winner, Michelin Defenders are a good bet. Available at Costco with lifetime 'lots 'o stuff' too. Just missed their most recent 1 cent per tire installation.......... but if you can wait it will come around again.

I also vote for the cooper AT tires. Excellent on road manners and a somewhat aggressive tread. So many people are in love with them.

I have Firestone Destination A/Ts and thet are a very quiet A/T.
I’ve been running them for about 60k miles and fully expect to get 80-90k on them if not more.

    Great tire.

KO2 or STT Pro. I just bought some 285/70/17 KO2's from Tire Rack for 192 each, free shipping and $100 VISA card when you buy 4.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I went with the Cooper A/T3s - got a good deal on Cyber Monday at Tire Rack.

Next project: pick out a set of wheels...

Tire threads are like oil threads, everyone has an opinion usually based on what’s currently on their truck. I’m going to give you my opinion based on 45000 miles on my current tires. I’ve had 4x4’s for over 40 years and have had tried over a dozen different brands. It sounds like you are not big time into off road and want tires that aren’t real noisy and last awhile. My current tires are Hercules Terra Trac AT2’s. They are the quietest AT ive ever run. They are also rated to go 60,000 miles. I’ve got close se to 50000 miles on them and they’ll definitely make it 60 plus. I go off road frequently hunting and fishing. They perform very well dirt and gravel rutted and washboard roads. Been on a number of 4x4 roads and trails and they have excellent traction. They also perform well on mud dirt roads and in snow. They are outstanding on wet roads in the rain. On dry highway they are quiet. I don’t rock crawl but I would have different tires if I did. Also the cost is less than some of the other big brands. When I get new tires on my truck it will definitely be another set of Hercules Terra Trac. Check them out I think you’ll like them.
    Here’s a review from 4 wheel magazine from a few years ago.http://www.fourwheeler.com/product-reviews/1405-hercules-terra-trac-at-ii-tire-review/
