We’re under a blizzard warning today and tonight so hopefully I’ll get to do some hunting in the snow the next few days.

Well...8 inches of snow overnight,22 degrees and the wind is NW at 14 mph. Been in stand for 20 minuets and have seen 6 does, including the 3 bedded down 30 yards away. My neighbor was nice enough to leave 8 acres of standing beans and I’m about 40 yards off of them.783C055F-B695-49AD-A661-E706633F085F.jpg

Bet that wind is cold. Having deer in front of you sure helps though. Good luck!

Yes it was cold. Seen 15-16 does and 4 bucks 2 big ones. Hit one at 4:55, it was a 35 yard shot. Not overly confident with the blood so I quit tracking after about 50 yards. Will go back in the morning to look for him. I think the shot was a little low and forward .

Good luck. At least you have the snow in your favor. Hope you find him at the end of a short trail. Were you low in the shoulder or in front of it?

I think I hit low shoulder, the amount of penetration will be the determining factor. Arrow was still in him.

Well I went back out this morning to track my buck. More blood than I expected and found a couple of beds where he laid down. He also walked in front of one of my cameras. After tracking about 1/2 mile I jumped him so, the bad news is no deer but the good news is he’s still alive. He’s hit on the left side so you can’t see where I hit him. Now I need to contact neighbors in case he does die but I think he’ll survive.D3A52F0F-007E-4E91-AC82-701093689D64.jpg40FCD388-5C1C-4DD3-98C8-57C116A24BFF.jpg

Hunted tonight and seen a ton of deer again, no shooters. I’m going to hunt in the morning and look for my buck again. He didn’t travel very far overnight and when I jumped him he wasn’t moving very fast.

Look for buzzards. I understand it’s cold and snowy there but they can still find a deer. Either that or get some dogs involved in the search. If you think you may have possibly killed him you really should at least take it to the next level before finally giving up.

Haven’t given up yet. I contacted two different guys with tracking dogs last night but couldn’t work anything out. Both guys have just gone back to work from vacation.

I doubt it’s feasible but some people use a friend with a helicopter or plane. Not saying you know anyone that can do that, but it can work though. Really hope you track this buck down. He is a damn good one!

With that snow, if you know anyone with a drone, it's possible it could work. Some of them have great pic qualities. Just a thought. And they are great for sitting on your tailgate and scouting. Best of luck to ya!

Uh definitely check your state laws on this. In Washington it is VERY against the law to track animals with any type of aerial device

Track living animals and hunting is definitely different than looking for a downed animal. Unless you are in restricted airspace using a drone without I’ll intent should be fine. I’m not 100% sure, but I can’t imagine if he is only looking for a downed animal and not trying to use the information found to gain an advantage and sneak up to kill deer he should be allowed.
