I'm looking at adding a 1.5" AAL to the factory rear suspension on my truck. I have the 4 leaf, and i intend to keep the factory OL leaf. I have just a couple of questions - mainly regarding the other components that i may want to look at changing out when i do this.

    1. with the 1.5" AAL and keeping the factory OL leaf, what length of U bolts should i purchase?
    2. With this setup, should i go for the 5125 or will the 5100s provide enough travel? I dont do any real offroading, i do some light exploring but that is really it. I'm doing the lift to get the factory rake back to the truck.
    3. Factory broke hoses will still work?
    4. With my proposed setup, should i invest in the shims to correct the driveshaft angle? i'd rather do it right, all at once ya know?

    thanks!

I have a 3rd gen but I do have some insight...

I just lifted my truck with 6112/5160, UCA, Icon AAL, and some other stuff.

I am currently looking for the equivalent leaf springs to get the same lift as the AAL gave me but a better ride. I had 4 passengers in the truck and hit a bump in the road. The bump was not huge, big, or medium. I was just so low in the OEM leaf packs travel range that it was riding on the AAL and felt like I bottomed out on a steel bumpstop. Everyone in the back hit their heads on the roof.

The AAL rides nice with no weight in the bed and only a driver, but as soon as you weight your truck down with stuff be prepared.

My factory brakelines were fine, but I did install a 1" block under the factory mounting point to give them a little lift.

If you're worried about driveline vibrations you should get the angle shims. IIRC they were 3 or 4 degrees and around $25

now that's definitely something to think about, i am planning on 2 road trips with this truck next year with the family so that could really make the drive miserable.

Absolutely get new leaf springs and do it right the first time. I essentially threw $200 out the window with the AAL and now I need to take everything back off, new u bolts, and put everything back together. Oh well, live and learn!

Good to know, i'm not sure how different what is available to you since you have a third gen, but i'm finding it hard to find leaf springs that offer the small amount of lift i'm looking for. It seems like everything is 2-3".

What AAL are you using? Single or a 3 leaf? I’m about to get an icon 3 leaf progressive. And i do carry a heavy load occasionally. Now I’m thinking i need to get the whole leaf pack

Edit..sorry i just saw that you were using the icon
