New PRO - Desert Air Intake or No?

I'd take a bath with a toaster if I had to pay $50k for a truck with a dorkel on it. I can't explain my irrational hatred for those things. Cancel that sale or I will eyeroll you so hard...

 

I know a few guys with built 200 series LCs with them. How does that make you feel? Granted they take them down to Baja yearly, so they are for a purpose.

 

Let me translate what the dealer is saying here...

"We don't want to swap out the snorkle and likely can find another dude to buy it if you don't buy it."

 

It looks like absolute shit

 

Seems to me that people that would find a snorkle beneficial and useful for their intended use of the vehicle would also want to be able to put a roof rack on their truck.

Im not spending my money on something im not happy with. I dont think something like a huge elephant dong sticking out of the fender is something you could grow to like if you dont right now.

Racing and desert warfare with Rommel might be the only 2 acceptable applications.

 

You have now. They're very common in Australia and all over Africa for those that do "overland/remote" type driving, to include:
The UN
US Dept of State in AFG and Iraq
Many African govt agencies

Just google "Africa Land Cruiser" and see for yourself how many have snorkels.

On a slightly different topic, the Desert Rats were nothing to kid about. Those dudes were savages.

 

Huh shows what I know. I’m just going off desert trucks in Southern California and race trucks I’ve seen.

 

Yeah, they are more for the "expedition" type rigs. SoCal trucks are just that, and race trucks have enough care and maintenance on the daily that its not that big of a deal. But spend months in Africa or the middle east and that dust gets EVERYWHERE and INTO everywhere.

 

Heck yeah. Big fan of Rat Patrol if you remember that show.

I know a lot of you guys hate the snorkel but the truck is set up for Baja running. It’s not set up for water forwarding. I have a 2019 TRD Pro it does look silly but it’s a functional piece of equipment to the truck. Will I ever Baja with it? No but I have 3 TRD Pro. I have these for the reliability and the collectibility of these vehicles. I won’t even mud with them I hope to have these vehicles for the next 20-30 years and then someday be able to sell them like a fj40.
