During the holidays I typically run cheap Christmas lights around the roofrack powered by the 100/400W bed outlet as the switch is already plumbed into the cab. This year, I added a second strand of lights (2 total) connected in series. I am having about a 50% success rate in actually using the outlet to turn on both strands in the 100W mode. When the lights don't turn on I get a momentary 100W light on the cab switch to come on before it turns off - the lights never actually turn on either.

Everything I'm seeing online shows about 40W per 100 bulb string.... am I missing something?

    Thanks

You very well could have enough resistance in the wiring and connections pushing the load over 100 watts .

    loose connections will do this

the only way to really know is measure both strands and do the math

If you don’t have a large electrical load (stereo system, off road lighting, etc) then I might suggest the 400w anytime mod.

I personally have the tow package with the 130A alternator, but I still am cautious when using more than 100w in the bed while driving. I have a large stereo system though so I factor that in to my power draw.
