Here's an idea that im tossing around.
People make secure rod carriers out of 8" PVC and these guys, and im sure its been discussed here:

    https://www.amazon.com/Buyers-Products-CC400-Conduit-Carrier/dp/B00P18EU7A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1542990214&sr=8-1&keywords=pvc+pipe+locking+cap&th=1

    ending up with this:

what i am planning on doing is getting these, and mounting it inside the bed rail using the quick fists.

    https://www.relentlessfabrication.c...cts/05-tacoma-bed-rail-dual-quick-fist-mounts

i think it will fit nicely right next to the Kayak in the bed. Hopefully if i ever get a bed cover it all should fit under it.

Depending on the size of your rods and if they are one or two piece, using a rifle case (foam padded) works great for my freshwater rods and reels. Economical and the rods and reels are well protected.

Best way to pick up a discounted hobie is from shops selling their demos

The Harbor Freight one isn't too bad and it's affordable. There are others that are significantly more expensive that you might want to consider given the length of your yak.

When we cart our yaks to and from the water, I position the carts "dead center" (balance point) which makes it much easier to transport. Terrain that you must traverse will factor into this. Our yaks are only 10'ers so it's not an issue for us.

Again, depending on the terrain, you might want to consider larger tires for your cart. If you're handy, you can modify 12" tires to fit the cart and will make any yak off-roading much easier. The penalty is the larger tires weigh considerably more than the smaller ones.

    A comparisonCart tires 001.jpg ...

For reference, cart tires compared to trailer tires....

You'll be fine with the Amazon $60 model, and similar models can be had at walmart and academy.

That guy in the vid fishes salt water, so keep that in mind with the rust issue. also a good coat of paint will help. the denting can be fixed with mounting a pool noodle to that cross bar like this:

if you are feeling spendy, you can get the boondox t-bone for $199

I havent had a bed extender for my kayak, but its 11'3". ive been considering getting one for longer drives. usually i fish less than an hour drive from home.

Also, I made a tail light for my kayak when i transport. cost about $20 in materialsand took me about 20 minutes.

Thanks man! I'll probably get the cheaper one. Won't be using it much. Like you said just for longer trips. And I'm nowhere near the ocean so I'm sure the saltwater issue won't be a problem for me

I like the tail light idea. My yak is only 11.5 and I have a long bed but I still get a little nervous transporting it in the dark with only a flag.

I need to find a old jet ski trailer. 5ft bed with a 13ft kayak is not cool

I thought about trailers for a long time. seems like a lot of hassle. registration, maintenance, storage, cost...

A Harbor Freight trailer has been used by many to convert to a kayak trailer with success. I have a dedicated kayak trailer (Malone Xtralite) and it's been terrific. It made transporting the yaks a lot easier....Kayak Trailer 003.jpg

Check on your legal requirements for lighting an extended load. At least in Kansas, there must be side markers and lights to indicate the width of the overhanging load. I rigged this up for pretty cheap.

That’s a great setup. My FIL has the same trailer but not nearly as built out. We do want to put the J hooks on it though since it makes transporting 2 kayaks easier

I have a 2-boat fleet, a Native Watercraft Ultimate Tandem 14.5 and a Viking Profish Reload. I love them both, great for fishing, camping, or cruising around.

Have any of you heard more info on the new Pelican Catch 130 HD? I watched a 2018 ICast video about it saying it will be available in 2019 but that’s it. I’ve questioned Pelican dealers with no response, is this top secret or what ???
