2018 Tacoma.....I stopped to check the load of hay I was hauling and went to get out of the truck. I turned off the engine and dropped the keys in the center consul. I checked the load and then found the ruck had locked the doors. If I hadn't left the drivers side window down I would have been locked out of my truck. Is there a standard key that can be purchased from the dealer or aftermarket that I can hid somewhere on the exterior of the truck?
    Thanks

    None as of yet
Your truck should have come with a standard standalone key as well that can be used in the driver door

There’s a key in your fob. Press the button on the side.

You can use that key if you want and then move your keychain over to the other corner connecting through the two holes in the corner.98A4423B-AEFE-4FDE-A038-CBA21B2CF880.jpg

Mine did also come with a completely separate key (for the tailgate on 2016 but on newer models should work the driver’s door also) so you may have one somewhere else.

If you want a very slim easy to hide key you can get the one meant to go in the Lexus Credit Card Key.

(Sorry about the black mark, don’t want anyone copying my key from a photo, though I’m not sure how possible that is)

I guess when he said standard key I figured he meant he just had a fob and wanted a metal key (what I’d call a standard key these days) :notsure:

OP, what key setup do you have? Do you have the push button start or do you have a regular key start? I am not completely understanding here, because I have left the fob in my truck and could lock and unlock the door by the handle. I have push button start.

I'm not quite sure what is going on here. I just know my truck will unlock the door with the fob inside, that's why I was thinking he must have a regular key start ignition.

    Edit:
Not sure what happened to my earlier post, but if you have regular key ignition, just get a copy cut and it will unlock the door.

Both of our "electronic" keys are the same. I would be cautious in exposing either one of them to weather, or dirt. I do have the key turn ignition and not the twist knob or push button for starting.
    Thanks Mike
