Fab bumper. Get one. Then the next ass hat that backs into you will have a smashed in rear end and the next deer that comes along will explode on impact.

eerrm sorry to bust your bubble, when I worked at a Toyota collision center we most definitely used aftermarket parts.

I used to have geico and they were great. It’s Probably like any insurance company, when your on the opposite end they try pulling one over on you. I’m sure adjusters get bonuses if they can save the company money by trying to cheap out and screw people over. I’m sure you being a female, maybe he thought he could pull a fast one on you.

It’s always best to deal with your insurance company, even if you’re not at fault. You pay them and they deal with this stuff daily. Laws very state to state but I think most states you have the right to take to a shop of your choice for repairs. Never accept a check from another insurance company. Pretty sure once you cash it it’s like agreeing to a settlement. If you find more damage during or after repair then it could turn into your problem. Take it to a reputable collision shop and have them do a through inspection and give a quote, and have them submit it directly to your insurance company

Take it to a Toyota Certified Collision center to ensure they use OEM paint, parts etc.

This is New Mexico. Most people would take the $1,500.00 check and go buy meth or something. I just want my truck fixed properly.

Exactly. The insurance company wants people to take the money instead of paying 5x more than that for a repair.

Geico once paid $8k for a repair, but declined part of the claim. 6mo later the part they denied failed and I took it back to the shop and they argued that Geico should have authorized all of the recommended work. To my surprise, Geico paid another $11k for the supplement 6mo later.

Lesson learned, take it to a shop that will work with you, documents everything, and will fight on your behalf.

That shop made out like a villain.

Which Trader Joe’s? The parking lot of the one in Santa Fe is notorious for accidents like this because the spaces in that lot are so damn small and the rows are so narrow. I’ve seen at least a couple accidents in crappy parking lots like that. This is why I park in any lot way in the back/corner next to a tree or other barrier that at least prevents another car parking next to net and potentially hitting my truck.

    Best wishes with repairs.

Trader Joe’s lot in Albuquerque on Uptown Loop is the same way. Tiny parking spaces, no room to maneuver. I am extremelely careful where I park my truck and this time I apparently made a bad choice, way in the back of the lot, right next to a tree. I even told my Husband, “Oh, good spot. Right next to a tree”. This driver literally had to try to back into me...
