Denso plug differences?

On Black Friday Advance Auto Parts had a 25% discount and free shipping for online purchases so I ordered 6

$53 Denso 3421 ----- 6 PCS NEW

Denso 3421 Iridium plugs. They split it in 2 shipments of 3 each; one came from Ohio, the other from Kansas. The boxes looked different, plugs look slightly different. The ones on the left are made in Japan, right side made in USA. Other than the font of the markings and metallic sheen differences they appear to be the same. Debating whether to exchange them at the local store or just put them in.

 

Out of curiosity how much was the total shipped price on these?

 

why Iridium plugs ? V6 4.0L ?

 

$41. Have used them before in the 4.0, and they last twice as long. No noticeable performance difference.

 

Just get these next and waste time.

I run Denso Iridium in my Tacoma and wife's Avalon. For as long as they last to me the cost difference is negligible, and why not run the best? But I would prefer Japanese made over USA.

 

gonna get a better spark out of a standard copper plug. Only reason to run irridiums in the single vvti 1gr in our tacomas is if you have a supercharger for longer service intervals as you need to remove the whole super to get to the driver side plugs.

 

If I recall correctly, I think our trucks come stock with two different types of spark plugs. I always use the stock denso plugs

Who knows... Maybe they got a split-bid with Toyota. Likely a business decision, not engineering

 

I'm running those Denso Long Life's (#3421) in my truck. The different country of origin may explain the different packaging but the plugs will be the same. Put the Japanese plugs on one bank, the US on the other; replace in 100K. At about 60K, I replaced my OEM plugs with NGK Iridiums; I ran them for about 115K, and recently replaced them with the Long Life's. I expect the Denso's to last a little longer because they have hardened ground electrodes - that's what wears out on plugs. I recommend you still pull and check the plugs about every 60K to check the gap and other wear and tear. I checked the gap on the NGK's at about 80K and had to re-gap them; they averaged .055 (recommended gap is .043) . I have Iridiums in all my vehicles and they all run as expected.
