I don’t want or need a $1700 solution that adds considerable weight and length to my truck. I’m not Cool enough for a fancy swingout bumper. I’m getting a high clearance bumper sometime within the next year but not with swingouts on it. I like keeping my setup very simple and minimal. It works for me and it’s much less expensive. A spare in the bed that takes less than 4 minutes to remove is exactly what I need (for the one time every 2 months I use my truck bed to haul something large). Trailer? No way. Never. No need. Even my camping setup is simple and inexpensive and lightweight. Ground tents are fantastic. Also my truck won’t fit in my garage with a swingout on a bumper.

Well that settles that then I reckon I was only offering some alternatives. I stood mine up and strapped it to the front of the bed. This is practical on a day to day bsis but not when we go camping and wheeling together as I have more to carry in the bed. Trailer, I always have one and it's used for hauling all kinds of stuff, 4wlr (won't fit in the truck), mulch, lumber etc. I have a good place to park it though so it's of no concern. Good luck with your project it's a neat idea

 

Thank you sir! Yeah I barely get to camp a few times per year and we only have a small 2 car garage & no RV gate or anything. I love simple and inexpensive effective setups. It’s my jam. Thanks though! I’m fine with it strapped down flat currently but I want to integrate my Jack into the setup.

 

Got my @HomerTaco grill led lights finally wired up. I like the visibility! Also fixed my cb antenna and got the ditch lights mounted. The CBI brackets didn’t like the snorkel but it worked out.

 

Integrating the jack with it is a smart and handy idea that way it's always there when you need it and it's secured, relatively. At my age and with back issues we gave up on ground tents. Frankly they suck for me anymore. Between the Army and 17 years as Girl Scout leaders I ave done my time in tents. Besides sleeping on a CPAP machine I need power. We sprung for a micro off road camper. No bathroom and the kitchen is a 4' pull out in the rear it really is like sleeping in a hard sided tent. With solar, dual batteries, fridge ,portable bath room, and solar shower we can be self sufficient for a week at a time at least. No it's not what you would consider simple but for us at this stage in life it works well. With the awnings and collapseable grill I guess it could be considered glamping it does have AC but only if we go to a campground with power. here's a couple pics and ou see why bed space is a premium although the camper is self sufficient and everything packs and stores inside it

I like that. And you proved that you basically earned that camping setup. See, I’m only 30 and I don’t get to camp often, so my needs are very different but I really like that setup you have there. Very slick!

Started making my hi lift bed rail mounts.

 

I like the direction you're going, I may need to copy it lol.

I was using some bed rail mounts from SOS Offroad that worked just fine. But then I got a bed rack (which then housed my hi lift), and installed Total Chaos bed stiffeners.

Now I got rid of the rack and went to put the hi lift back in the bed and it sits too close to the bed side that it hits the bed stiffener. Planned on making a mount myself that sticks out about another inch to keep from chopping up my 60" hi lift. Yours looks like it'll work just right

 

Maybe try some 1” spacers with what you have and see if they work. At the very least you’d see what tou actually need. You could probably find something dimple at Lowes or Home Depot

 

What has been done is done! But surely it seems painful!

 

The bolt is welded to the mount and it's too short. It's all powder coated too, so I don't want to grind the weld to get the bolt out and all that if I can help it. Keep them in good shape for the next guy lol

 

I had a harder time walking away from my 2010 than my 2015. But check out that fuel economy though.
