I have said on here that "I have Napa chassis ball joints and they have not given me any problems for X amount of miles." Today I eat my words. Ordered OEM ball joints from Conicelli toyota. What a service department they are. Very nice people there! Unfortunately my local Toyota dealer isn't as nice ;)

I replaced in 2015. I would say anywhere from 10-15K. Not much at all. Lifetime warranty ball joints. Almost looks like a manufacture issues. That socket is dry!

Dang. Glad I went OEM. Any other damage? Looks like a low speed failure, hopefully everything else survived for ya! That CV could use some attention too :boink:

Now that I look at it, was the CV a casualty of the ball joint failure?

It yanked it out and ripped the inner boot. Just going to replace that. Just lower Ball Joint and the CV axle. Thought I hit a frickin Dog or something! I couldn't imagine this happening on the interstate. Damn - that would be scary.

Glad you're ok. I'd still warranty the NAPA parts, just because, then throw them away. Lol

Oh yes. I called them. Told them about it. Going to bring the parts back for a full refund. Napa has always been good to me. This is just one of those parts that isn't very good. As I get older I see the quality of EVERYTHING I've usually bought going down but price going up. WTF man! lol

Yeah we live in a totally disposable society now. No quality whatsoever anymore.

Looks like you got away without any fender damage. I've seen a bunch of pics with crumpled fenders.

The cop was astonished that made sure dumbass traffic didn't hit me. Tire is still good, Inner fender is a little bad but outside is all good. I stopped immediately just right in the middle of the road.

    @Xbeaus

    Let me get this straight...

The service department at your local Toyota dealer in South Dakota sucks, so you ordered the parts from a dealership in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania? That's less than an hour from me! My local Toyota dealer (Thompson Toyota in Doylestown, PA) has good customer service, but everything is exorbitantly expensive! Maybe I'll start going to Conicelli instead!

    Examples of Thompson's exorbitance:

$361 for a replacement headlight lens (didn't buy)
Almost $1,300 for front brakes (calipers, pads, and rotors)
Almost $1,600 for evaporator core and expansion valve ($400 for parts; Bloody $955 for labor!)

This is why I now only bring my truck to Thompson for Pennsylvania's required annual inspection ($60 for emissions test, safety inspection free, and free loaner car) and for recall/warranty work!

Thompson Lexus also wanted almost $800 to replace the power antenna in my Grandma's 2002 Lexus RX300!

That ball joint does look dry. Is it coated with road grime from the trip home? Or is it... dry??? I wonder what it looks like if you clean the ball...

@PennSilverTaco there's a few good online parts dealers, I've found McGeorge Toyota to be the cheapest on a lot of parts. $533 shipped OEM steering rack, local dealer wanted $700+

$173 local. $112 from Conicelli. They have it marked down from $161. It's the way it is where I live. I understand supporting local businesses but damn - they gouge the shiz out of you. I bought the ball joints with 2 day shipping for less than my local dealer. They have to order it as well. So I get it sooner for about $80 cheaper. You know - I drive a 1st gen. $80 can go a long way! lol

It came out that way! I should of been more aware as for the last couple days I felt something wandering. I thought it might be my steering rack but it was that bastard.

That's what Thompson does. The owner of the Thompson dealership has a Lexus LF-A!

So the real question is who makes the NAPA branded unit?

    Low bidder?

    Or consistently the same vendor?

Maybe someone will give you a clue when you do your warranty work.

Glad it ended safely for you!

Quality exists, but a lot of people sure don't want to pay for it
