I saw a 2016 Tacoma SR on a used lot with a Hitch ball on the factory bumper. I didnt know this was an option. Has anyone tried this?

Steel bumpers only. Pretty sure our bumpers are plastic...

I keep a stainess hitch plug in mine when the hitch isnt installed. Keeps it clean and looks sharp.

I didnt think there was a hole in our bumpers to attach a ball...

I think the only reason the manual says that is because some states it’s illegal to have anything in your hitch if you’re not actively towing anything

If that’s the case then I don’t think anyone does that, way too much of a hassle

Lol. Pretty sure if you put a ball on my bumper the truck and ball would separate as soon as you hit the gas. I don't think that "bumper" is anything more that decoration.

... In all fairness I have a or with the tech package so my bumper is all plastic.

A friend that is a member of the local fire dept. told me that the request to remove the hitch is motivated by insurance companies. Leaving your stinger in creates more damage to the raming car and increases the possibly of frame damage to the car that has been rear ended. So, insurance companies don’t want to pay out because you don’t want to take the hitch out. Just hearsay but it made sence to me.

Edit: sorry, a little off topic.

Well I like to leave the ball adapter in the 2” receiver, you always get a little more space when parralel parking.
