Modern top tier filters are capable of way more than 25,000 miles. Don't forget...that they also filter better the dirtier they get. Until a point of course. Modern multi layer synthetic media filters such as the Fram Ultra have a tremendous carrying capacity though and shouldn't be a concern over the course of an extended oil change interval.

Don't take my word for it...talk to the boys who know over at BITOG

    Times have changed.

Always follow manufacturer engine warranty requirements, no matter how times change

I think I read somewhere that some auto manufacture say you can replace your oil filter every other oil change. I have a commuter, older corolla that I bought used, and I like to test oil theories. I've taken it past 7500 miles per oil change and I have put around or over 100,000 miles on it since I've had it, a little over 3 years now. I haven't tried the oil filter change every other oil change yet though.

This is a big debate and everyone has their personal preference. Also consider everyone's driving situations and environments are different so that would play a role too. Real world experience and longevity of a motor, its hard to tell because the are so many variables and you would need a few test vehicle that are data monitor from new to replacement. Lets just say some of our state vehicle have well over 250-300k miles with CEL and other problems but they keep chugging as far as the motor goes.

Times have changed and filter material and choices have changed. Choose wisely

And as far as TOYOTA is concerned, when it comes to filter types, it's "back to the future" for us lol!

After new purchase 4/17 I changed mine at 4000 miles and filter was clean as a whistle.

Loved this video! Is exactly why I bought the Baxter spin on filter adapter. Does anyone really think an engineer at Toyota designed this because it was an improvement???

By what I have read, Toyota went with the cartridge filter so that they could put the relief valve in the block. It seems that spin on oil filter bypass valves varied in settings and couldn't meet Toyota specs. It takes more time to bitch about the filter than it does to change it.

I’d just go with what the manufacturer recommends. My truck is every 5000 miles new oil and filter.
$60 in materials is better than $6000 in engine repair, and give me peace of mind that I shouldn’t have issues
