    Hello Tacoma World

I need help. I have a1999 Tacoma 2.7L 4 wheel drive with manual 5speed transmission. It was my 1st son's truck and now is being handed down to my 2nd son. #2 wants a lift and larger tires to make it his own.
I purchased a small 2.5" lift kit by Dynastar (not installed yet) and plan to install it together over Christmas break. I figured few kids these days get to learn mechanical stuff so I am looking forward to it.

My problem is my door code reads B02A. I am not sure the gearing in the truck can handle larger tires.
The vehicle currently has the original 15" wheels with 31x10.5R15 tires on it now. It's a bit of a dog now but that is OK with me because I don't want them driving fast anyways.

If I install the 2.5" lift can I increase tire size slightly?

    More tire, more dog.

From a 'make it his own' standpoint, there might be a different style of tire (to change the look) or maybe a wheel change is in order.

They don't have to be fancy new wheels. They can be wheels that fit properly and he can refinish them for a fresh look.

Even moving to 16", with a tire of the same overall diameter (thus shorter sidewall) would create a new look.

Several folks run 2nd or even 3rd gen wheels on their 1st gens, and they can be found cheap.

You think the vehicle will look OK with the lift and the same tire size?

Yes you can increase the tire size
Yes it will effect the torque. How much I don’t exactly know maybe someone with a 99 will chime in.

The ballpark number is you loose 3% of torque for every inch of tire size
