I am just getting into overlanding and I was curious what everyone used for Coms and what they believed in about those coms. Are you satisfied? Is it clear?

I'm into overlanding. I use the cell when in the hotel bar and I text for room service. Then I leave the room and drive five miles up a dirt road for a photo op and on the way back to the bar I use my cell again to reserve a table.

    I kid, I kid!

OP I just carry a cell and portable CB. There's not many places where you can't get help with one of those. I also carry a sat to call out in an emergency but have never used it.

If the Pandora app stops showing up on the head unit, you've gone too far.

All joking aside. 2 types of comms. Buddy comms and emergency comms. The buddy comms are simple. Some say CB, some say ham. The right answer is run whatever your group or buddies run. They're the ones you need to talk to.

Emergency comms, having a satellite service devices is never a bad idea. They're not cheap , but if you need one chances are someone's life is in danger. Ham radio might have a bit more of an edge in this category with APRS than cb, and cb if you can randomly get a skip signal but I wouldn't rely on that more than I would just have it as another tool in the belt
