Auto vs Manual MPG Question

FWIW I was a stick car guy for decades. Thought I'd never own an automatic. My toy car is a manual, but I see the advantage of the modern automatic.

I've gotten upto 27mpg in with 6MT. Could probably get the same MPGs if not better if the 6MT was geared the same as the auto.

Do You say this as a manual driver guessing about how auto drivers feel about stick driving or is it personal opinion? Your point faltered in the "people" assumptions. I'd be surprised if an auto w/paddle shifting weren't quicker on a track, not so sure about the results without the paddles, though, they wouldn't use them otherwise, a standard auto doesnt maintain proper rpms without them, but that "doesn't add to the driving expeience" is, at least in my case, pure BS. If go-carts had sticks now that would have been some fun! Can you honestly compare one foot on the gas and both hands on the wheel to the complexity shifting adds to cornering? I drove stick for my first 27 years of driving and now that I have one again after 16 with an auto I realize how much I missed it. That rest stop would be the only opprtunity to row during hours of monotony and you can bet I'd notice even that simple pleasure. It may well be the beginning of the end but I for one am glad for the ride.

In 2018 manuals offer zero advantages in fuel mileage or anything else. Just because the AT can shift automatically doesn't mean the driver isn't in control. I'm shifting between gears quite a bit with my auto especially in mountains or if loaded/towing. If you enjoy stirring the stick then buy a manual, but there are no advantages.

Appologies, multiquote isnt high in my usage. Apparently not yours either since both of us were attempting to quote Dkurtz42. My opinion was directed at his portion of text in your post.

My MT only get 16-17 average right now. But I go up and down canyons weekly and really appreciate the MT control over the AT.

A little more fuel for the fire. The truck was within 50 miles of DFW airport for all of this. Photos taken less than an hour ago.
