I got rid of my 2018 Tacoma after two months due to an annoying howling sound between 55-65mph. Sounded like a kazoo. Unbearable. They did a tsb but it made the sound worse.

They said it was normal operating but it wasn't. We drove other trucks on the lot and they didn't make the sound. And they still refused to do anything for me.

If it was normal operating sounds this entire forum would be up in arms if it sounded like mine did.

Tacoma have never had good gas mileage and in 30 yrs of toyota truck ownership this is my first with traction control and VSC. Is this your 1st Tacoma or 1st truck with electronic nannies? If so it will take getting used to no matter how many years of wrenching you have.

36k miles on my current truck and if the roads are wet or I'm trying to punch it in a turn, electronic nannies will kick in if I try to push my luck. Just be ready for it when making your choices.

I drive like Grandpa Joe out on a Sunday morning coffee run during the church rush... never had this issue (2018 Limited DCSB).

I mean, it could be especially based on what could be going on between the lack of recalibration and VSC.

At the end of the day, it's still a truck... it's not a sports car. When I push my pedal down it moves, when I push it further, it moves out of it's own way, if I put mine to the floor it moves out of its own way while screaming "move bitch, get out the way" in it's own way loud, v6 screaming way.

Last tank I had I actually noticed a decrease in performance and a loss in fuel mileage, my wife noted the same in her 2016 Honda Civic which lead me to the believe that we may have gotten a shit batch of fuel - it happens.

    It's a truck. It's a truck that gets 18.5 mpg... I came from a truck that got 8 mpg... I think it's a good trade off.

Yea, because every Tacoma sold should automatically just return immediately to the service department for a ECU reflash.

Funny a few people bitch about their trucks and the fan boys say there is no problem. Now fan boys are saying everyone should just get the TSB done. Well I guess not all of them, some of the idiots here are still claiming drivers error, over saying Toyota fucked up. This shit blows my mind.

Was your truck bed empty during this event? An old truck will spin an inside rear tire when punching the gas when trying to turn, with traction control and all the other nannies it makes those situations even less predicable. Add possible cold tires, wet road or fallen leaves and it can kick in quicker with less predicable results.

All I'm saying is there's a lot of things to consider when stomping on the gas in a turn from a standstill on trucks today and expecting them to respond as you think they should.

I’m not doubting the OP had an issue, even though I don’t even know that he does in fact owns a 3rd gen TOYOTA Tacoma.
Moreover, I don’t think it was the oversize tires, even though I’m pretty sure they don’t help his situation. I believe his truck may have let him down, else there’d be no TSB for this issue.

However, I do blame the OP for being careless or having unsafe driving practices.

You should never assume a machine is going to function as expected every single time without a backup plan (like leaving enough leeway) when your life maybe on the line.

How do I know this? Been there, done that and I’m still alive to tell about it.

I don’t have time to hang around a stealership so I figured out how to use the ECT and auto transmission S mode on the vehicle to make it fly and I don't need to use those two anymore either, it works like a dream now.

Maybe it learned something?? Either way...

    Problem solved!!

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

If you have to floor it to cross traffic... you are making a turn at an unsafe time.

Gear hunting may cause a 1 MAYBE 2 second delay in accelerating out of a turn (which means you are still moving) If the turn was made at a safe time this would lead to no fear of being hit by cross traffic. There would be time to correct on both sides.

The only time I can genuinely see your scenario playing out is if the truck went into neutral mid turn.

Your other scenario of turning out into traffic and having to panic and gun it to get to speed is another scenario that means you are making unsafe traffic movements.

Slow down. A vehicle can and will kill you and others. Getting to where you want to be 2 seconds faster is not worth the loss of life or limb.

If you have to rev over 2000 rpms to complete a traffic movement without risking people hitting you... its an unsafe traffic movement.

Not long after getting my 2017 Tacoma I decided to do a U turn. It was not an unsafe movement and I had plenty of room though there was oncoming traffic. The truck felt like it went into neutral. It was very disconcerting.

I never pulled a U, or pulled into oncoming traffic with ECT off after that incident.

Hopefully that shit is fixed. I am counting on it for a 2020 purchase.

Lots of people hate this truck, and TOYOTA is the numero uno selling truck in its class among some very worthy competitors.

There was a post yesterday about how great and outstanding the TOYOTA Tacoma is selling, you ought to read it, there must be a good reason for it.

Then your post comes out blasting the truck with a known TSB for a possible issue you describe.
It doesn't take a genius to put two and two together and/or to Photoshop a vehicle. I think even I could do that, fortunately I don’t have to.

And please, tune down your tone and insults, there maybe women and children here on the forum. This is or ought to be a clean and public place.
Moreover, I already said I believe you, and gave you advice that actually works without a TSB. What more do you want from me?

Enjoy your day, it’s a good one and be glad you lived to tell about it.

    Cheers!

Unfortunately not before I sold it. I’ve been watching the feedback and it seems most people are reporting favorable results. Watching now to see it is fully integrated into the 2019’s coming off the line.

    Planning a 2020 purchase.

It's a truck, not a sport car. Is not supposed to peel off from still and smoke the tires. I drove sport cars with a lot of power and have spun it 180* pulling a fast U turn...a lot worse than a slow start.

Regards, Dragracer_Art: Happened to me, 2018 DCSB Sport, AT. Left turn accessing six lanes, center two are turn lanes. Traffic from the left about three football fields away, plenty of time to enter the turn lane for traffic approaching from the right and merge smoothly.

Half throttle, the truck lurched halfway into the nearest lane & just sat there. When it finally decided to respond to the throttle approaching traffic was within 100 yds, the situation in the opposite flow had changed calling for a snap judgment wether to floor the throttle or reverse & most probably precipitate a wreck.

Happened twice, same scenario, different locations & totally unpredictable.

Took it to one dealer, refused the TSB because 0062-18 stated "at elevation". Local is 400 ft. +- above sea level. AT second dealer I said, "it's going to get someone killed", they obliged. 6,000 trouble free miles since. Mileage actually improved from (nom) 19.5 to 22 mpg.

Good luck with the update & ignore the hecklers who are in denial that some new Tacomas just may be less than perfect.
