So I am fairly new to the forum so I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask for help, so sorry if I'm in the wrong place... BUT, I bought a used Supertop off of another member here and for the most part, I love it, but the only problem is that it leaks water where the topper meets the bed... It seems like the foam is collecting water.. has anyone else had this problem?

I am wondering if I should just take off the 'waterproofing' foam any just have the bare metal sit flush with the bed, or if there is a way to replace the foam...

this is a picture of the foam I am talking about... thanks for your help!

It looks like you might need to tighten the clamps more. Or perhaps try replacing the foam with some type of weather stripping?

I used to have a Bestop and it only leaked at the corners.

If you didn’t replace the foam when you bought it, that would be step 1. I replaced mine with some neoprene rubber foam at one point during a reinstall and never had any issues. And like @Flying_Taco said make sure your clamps are at appropriate tightness and also spaced appropriately. If they are too close to the center of the rails then the canvas has a tendency to want to pull up at the edges thus giving you gaps also. Some of that is hard to mitigate without adding in an extra set of clamps in my opinion. I never got around to doing it before I sold mine but that would’ve been my solution.

Thanks for the feedback! I actually just bought some weather stripping this weekend from home depot that is meant for camper shells so I'm hoping that will do the trick... I'll update this post once I try it out so maybe it will help someone in the future! I will be sure to check the positioning of my clamps but I don't think that would be the problem because I have a total of 6 clamps to try to combat this problem.

Just out of curiosity, did you ever figure out how to fix the leaking corners?

I never got around to getting the corners to stop leaking. It didn’t leak enough for me to really mess with it, and the main source of leak was at the tailgate rather than the cab, which the tailgate crack leaks anyway unless you seal it so I just left it alone. I also used my setup with a set of KB Voodoo bed rails at the time so mine didn’t quite fit the exact same as OEM bed rail caps. My problem was the canvas pulling up at the corners which was mainly a winter issue.

Okay seems like I'll have to do some more investigating once I get the new weatherstripping on to see if I have any other leaks... Thanks for the help!

How did it end up working out? I tried to replace my foam, but the adhesive on the new foam was crappy when exposed to water. I’m currently looking for other options.

I still havent gotten around to replacing the weather stripping, things have been hectic with the holidays and all... Im going to try to put it on within the next couple of weeks. What brand of foam did you try? I bought some stuff from home depot for like 5-10 bucks that says its literally meant for truck caps...

I used cleverbrand inc. foam off Amazon. The foam was fine, but I washed the bestop a few days after installing the foam and it started to peel off.

I’m probably going to use some 3m super weatherstrip adhesive to make sure it sticks this time.

Update on this, The mounting tape worked great for fixing this problem. For the most part, everything is completely waterproof now just the two front corners are leaking (which I have noticed other people having problems with as well...) I think I am going to push the topper as far as I can towards the cab of the truck and try to clamp the front flap down to try to reduce the problem :notsure:
