Black widow 2.5" stainless steel coming out behind the passenger wheel. Venom 250 muffler with aFe Stage-2 Si Pro 5R Cold Air Intake System Dry filter. It was 11F this morning while starting the truck. I really like the sound of the Venom 250 on my truck. The initial firing up sound is aggressive and loud enough but doesn't scare small children. With that said, your neighbors will definitely know when you have started your truck because the exhaust note travels inside the house easily. Just under normal idle while sitting at a light or in a drive through you wont notice it to much, but once you get on the throttle you and everyone around you will hear it. Getting onto the highway or passing anyone puts a smile on my face each and every time.

The biggest thing that I noticed with this muffler compared to the last system that was on my truck is how much "quieter" the Black widow muffler sounds inside the cab, It doesnt sound annoying or overly loud. It has some hum at 1500 rpm, so going 35 down the road you might have a little hum but not annoying drone. At 2k RPM while doing 70mph the exhaust is comfortably quiet and easy to drive, but once you bring the motor up to 3200 RPM she stops sounding like a Tacoma and makes me smile.

I would say my experience with the Race Venom has been similar to this, but with just a small notch more in every sense. Obviously this makes sense given that the Race Venom is slightly smaller and is supposed to be a bit louder.

I have the stock intake, so for me in the cab the sound of the intake doesn't overpower the exhaust until maybe 4k+ or so

    Addon:

I have an Afe CAI and with the old exhaust I noticed that after 3k rpm you would loose the sound of the muffler because the intake sound would take over. After having the new exhaust for about a month now the biggest thing that I noticed is a pretty consistant power band and also engine sound. There is no drop of one sound for another. As the RPMs get higher the whole engine system sounds strong and happy.

Anyone here with Black widows on 3rd gen?

There are three videos of 3rd gens sporting black widow exhausts on YouTube. They sound better than any other exhaust system I have heard on YouTube.

I also watched some videos of infinities and Challenger V6s, and the Challengers sounded like V8s. I also saw comments stating “no drone at highway speeds”.

I am leaning towards a widow maker muffler, but I am scared it will be too loud and I’ll come off like a mustang driver. Not sure if the 250 will be loud enough for me.

Everyone gets the race venom, 250 or 300 and I don't like how any of those sound. They're all whiney and make it sound like a little race car. The widow maker gives the truck as big of balls as a V6 Japanese motor can.... but now with this neighbor hater out, I'm curious how much bigger the trucks balls can get

How’s your setup done... stock headers, cat then turndown over axle?

    e
everything in that department is stock. All thats done is they cut the old muffler off, welded on the widow maker and welded on a bent pipe that dumps before the axle. I think the tail pipe is like 3-4 feet.

I ended up going with a Black widow muffler paired with a resonator.

Paid about 200 bucks for this including install.

I did what I could with iphones, but I don't think the fullness of the deep sound was properly captured. This muffler / resonator combination produces a very mild mid range RPM sound but a very pronounced low-end.

The cringey "fartiness" of engine's higher range is still here, but it is somewhat lessoned.

Notice that the diff howl is louder than the muffler at highway speeds

Man that race venom is quiet with the resonator. Nice review. What size piping did you go with?

Hey guys, I kind of recently got a first gen Tacoma and I’ve been looking for mods that I can do. I’m thinking of starting by adding a new cat back because my piping right now is rusted and I’ve gotta cut off the bolts in order to take it off. I’m getting a little bit of help from some people I know but I want to know from people first hand. I’ve been looking at some threads on here from previous years about all these different cat back exhaust systems and I’m not sure what I want. Should i get a new cat back and cut in a muffler to that new exhaust or what? I’m not really good at all this stuff and I just need some help. I want something that is loud af but isn’t too expensive. Should I go for just a new cat back? Or should I keep the old piping and just cut in a new muffler? I’m also going to add a k&n intake at some time and I just want something that will be loud but also help the performance of the car. Thanks.
