I had a pair of Mozambique breed in one of my tanks. That was interesting. The Male cared for the young by holding them in his mouth.

This is what I had up until September this year
    Pond 2.jpg Pond.jpg
Almost 9000 gallons that I installed myself. Was in for over two years and then it all went sideways.
So freakin hot this year and my I had an overload of fish, that in turn helped and algae bloom take over the pond and then the O2 was gone and fish dead all within 24 hours...
Just didn't know what I didn't know and now I am back to square one and will be putting in an additional filter/ skimmer and added aquatic plant and bog plants. Will be digging out a shelf on the right side of the last picture for that shelf.
Never had an issue with algae, ammonia or nitrates and then this happened.
Anyway, the large koi were around 36+ inches and the smallest koi was around 14" the rest were goldfish ranging from 6"+ to 12" and I had around 80-90 fish in total. Should of removed a bunch of them in summer as the fish load was getting out of hand, however I didn't have the heart, as everything appeared fine until we had a massive run of hot weather....
Ill be back in the game in the next few months...
    Thanks for listening

That truly sucks. First most, I'm sorry to hear of your losses. Sucks losing fish like that .

Have you looked into adding more floating plants? I'm sure the ambient temperature is rough down there, and I'm not sure of the sun exposure in your ponds location, but they do help keep direct sunlight out and a lot also provide snacks for the the fish. Also, you get the added O2, but I suspect in my own case I get more just from the water being mixed by the water fall

Yes and I originally had a pond full-ish of water lettuce which took about 20* out of the pond last year. We had a hard freeze in Jan this year and the pond was around 32* for about 5 days, with ice starting to form on the edges that don't get a lot of flowing water past them and the lettuce died. Got some more and had an area of about 8sq' covered and the bloody fish ate them. They would eat the base where the roots joined the rest of the plant and just flat out kill them. so after months of trying to get the lettuce to get going and I just gave up as it was clogging my filter every week and the downward spiral continued as I realize now. I was working on replanting all the tropical plants that I lost during January and it was a rough year for sure, but I had a waterfall you see and another water feature that added O2 as well as a ton of aeration, or so I thought. As the water heats up the O2 naturally depletes in the water, and it is really hard to recover that much loss quickly and add an algae bloom that sux out what is left of the O2 and alls ya got is a massive cleanup.... Such a downer...
I have learnt a lot from this, however sometimes you just don't know the questions to ask to get help, and that was me. I thought I had it covered and all was great, but nope, this young padawan got schooled by nature...
