OP-have an open mind. We have all wished our vehicles were worth more. We’ve all had to face reality. You are getting your feeler. Don’t get upset. I think the TW voice is generally accurate. Despite your thoughts, they are telling you what the truck is or isn’t worth. KBB is a bad estimate. The problem as someone else stated, is 2018s are SUPER cheap right now. I would almost guarantee I could find a brand new similar model for less than your feeler price. Don’t take it out on TW. It is what it is. You’ll have to take a hit to sell or hang onto it.

If you really want to feel bad...take it to a dealer. They’ll offer you $31,000 trade in. This may at least lead you to the more reasonable asking price of around $34k private party.

TW voice isn't very helpful in only saying "not a good deal" I have yet to see any actual usable pricing only opinions that get angry when I voice my rebuttal and reasoning for my pricing. I can take the warranty out and the tonneau and liners and put it much lower but really if you were in the car business you would know that sometimes people are a few grand off and just need a little help. This is that help. Really I'm doing this for you guys.

My localish dealer quoted me 34k. No incentive to go private party at that price. I will remain open minded as others need to be more open minded also and stop assuming. I would value any usable information.

Thank you David, I value your response.

Someone else mentioned hanging on for one more year. That may not be a bad strategy either. While a lot of value comes right off MSRP it will diminish slower than most vehicles and the sale price won’t change much. That 34k the dealer offered is likely not to change much at 16000 miles instead of 6000. Good luck.

I do like the leather seats. I prefer leather over cloth just as a function of being able to shift around easier. That sounded stupid as I typed it but it’s true.

There's a reason why the TRD PRO comes only in leather ;) Thanks for the advice. In a year it would be much better off and 2 years I think I would definitely turn some profit. But if I can make it work now I'd probably leap.

I was quoted $38059 yesterday for this same configuration 2019 (tech and prem) in cement. I would say $36k would be a good deal for someone for your truck. They save $2k off new invoice and $5k off msrp.

OP, you can drop the price a tad, the extended warranty can be refunded after truck is sold (pro-rated)

You will have to wait until who ever financed it, to prove it was paid off. Then take proof
of sale to your dealer to get the remaining value of extended warranty refunded back to you.

Sell the bed cover separate. That way you can re coupe most of your money back and then move on
and be done with it. Those two items maybe $1500 ish. I would say $35,000 fair market price for your truck

    Just a suggestion.

The dealer may have told you 34 but do you have a deal completely worked out on the new truck? They're going to get their $$$ on either end, most of the time on both ends.

They may quote you one number, and you wait three, four, six months and go back for that deal and they say, "Oh no. that's no longer what we think your truck is worth. It now has 3K more miles on it and is now over the mileage most buyers want."

It's not a valid offer or a valid deal until its signed AND delivered.

How would you turn a profit in 2 years? I'm dying to know how to do this.

Pay it down enough that it’s worth more than he owes.

I get that. But his truck will be worth less in two years, and the MSRP of a new one will be more, and he would have been paying two years worth of payments on something he doesn't really want any more.

Just because he eventually gets his head from underwater on his truck, that isn't "profit".

There's no profit on a vehicle unless you bought a McLaren or a Ford GT.

You’re right. I don’t think OP meant profit in that sense though.

@Sum1 Else you are 100% correct. I'm already tracking. If I posted at 36 or 35 no one would pay that, they would automatically offer 33, 34. People dont generally have a sense for worth compared to value so no matter what price, unless its absurdly low, will always get haggled.

@ClassicVW in my case I was actually talking with a mercedes dealer and they were trying to get me on both ends. I talked with the GM and they came up on trade but still isn't enough for me to make it work. And by profit I more so meant not being negative.

So I’ve been shopping for a new Tacoma for a month or two while I unloaded an older Land Cruiser. You should shop around for a fair trade-in price on your vehicle especially if you intend to replace it with another new vehicle.

My last trade in was an 8-year old Tundra with 84k miles—ironically I got the same amount I paid for the vehicle on the trade-in due to inflation.

Specific to your vehicle I can tell you that with standard $500 rebates I’m seeing 2019 Double Cabs with Premium marked down $37,500 (sans Tax) without shopping too hard. That is $3.5-4K below MSRP. That’s pretty tough competition.

I got a decent offer from MB near me for $34k. Only problem is now I am looking to get into a much cheaper car. I am buying a house now.
