So at the Toyota dealer to get my inspection sticker and was walking around the lot looking at vehicles. Here is a picture of the hood on a $49k midnight black 4runner. When the white film that is wrapped on the hood for shipping was removed it left these marks. It's not adhesive and the marks are actually where there were bubbles in the wrap and the wrap was not touching the paint. Looks almost like the clear is delaminating. Rubbing with my finger it feels as smooth as the rest of the paint. And no change in marks. This was on a bunch of brand new vehicles. Sales manager was clueless 20181205_101732.jpg

So the clear coat Toyota uses is porous or otherwise hygroscopic....wonderful.

Isn't this the same tacomaworld that uses heat guns and hair dryers to remove bedside decals and vinyl door pillar strips? Why the sudden aversion to heat?

Yes, a heat gun will fix that for sure.

Can confirm that heat gun will fix it, or even just sitting out in the hot sun and they will fade right out.
(My truck was black so it really stuck out like a sore thumb) my dealer (after I pointed it out to them) wanted to get the truck re-painted.

DA polishing, clay bars, detail sprays etc. will not work.
Either heat gun and/or sunlight and I guarantee it will disappear without a trace.

Had this happen to a motorcycle I'd made the mistake of covering with a cheap plastic cover that didn't breath.
Scared the shit out of me when I took the cover off. A little time in the sun, and what looked like damage, disappeared.

My dealer gave my truck to me at night and covered in snow. (Lol now I know why).

The next day of course it's nice and sunny and so I power wash my nice new black truck.
And when the sun hits these marks the right way, they look almost white, hits it another way and it looks like a blister in the clear coat or brake fluid stains.

Front and center all across the front of the hood, and right across the front of the roof. When the sun was out could see 'm from 30' away...
After over a month of getting the run around at the dealer to even TALK to and SHOW someone this.
I had to block their doors with my truck to even get their service manager to acknowledge there was a problem.
Tried to blame me until I showed him the e-mail from the next morning when I got the truck with pictures...
His solution was to get the truck re-painted.

No clue what it was until I told him, no clue about the TSB about this, no clue about any of the other TSB's or issues with the truck...
I won't let that dealer even rotate my tires let alone change the oil.

I really feel sorry for people that put their faith in some "dealerships".

Fortunately I still had connections in the Automotive world that had told me what this was and what the fix was.
Since it was winter I just pulled it into a heated garage and put a couple heat lamps on the affected areas and went on to DA polish the rest of the truck for Ceramic coating while I waited for those areas to "cure".

Then I found Tacomaworld... and I think I found out about every POTENTIAL issue I may have with my truck lol.
Fortunately I have a manual and it's been fantastic.
Only "headaches" has been all the "Tacomaworld parts" I've had to bolt on... Lights, skids, sliders etc and I have not even gotten to Mesojdm's stuff yet...

Only time it's seen the stealer again was for it's 8k (5K mile) free tire rotation.
(At a different dealer... but even then, they broke a hubcap, didn't do the personalization settings... LOL).

ONLY thing I dislike about buying the truck was...... (drum roll) (smack to forehead)

Oooops that ended up long winded with some catharsis... :) :)
I bought the Platinum Service Plan/ Warranty...
I'm not sure I can trust Toyota dealerships with my truck. In fact next service visit, if I can't watch them do it, I'm not letting them do it and I'll be sending a nice letter to Toyota why I want a refund on my service plan. (Probably won't get a refund but might start waking them upto how bad some dealership are when even when it costs me nothing more, I won't use their dealer network for service :) )

I'll add snow to my never buy a vehicle at night or in the rain checklist..

Yep, milky is the way I would have put it, at least on the Hayabusa electric blue background.

My last trip to the dealer was on an out of town trip with my wife's just out of warranty Camry. Car had a very hard time starting after fueling up. Once started, the vehicle ran normally and I pulled into a Toyota dealership a couple exits down the interstate. I was quoted right at $400 dollars for a faulty purge valve and another $400 in labor. "Service adviser" said I was "lucky", they had the valve in stock. @ $800 bucks, I asked him to give me a moment. A quick google search uncovered OEM purge valves available shipped to my door for $26 bucks. A second google search revealed the purge valve sits atop the engine, held in place by nothing more than two Phillips head screws. Needless to say, I walked. The purge valve was in my mailbox when I arrived home, and the installation took probably a minute and a half.

No mas.. Dire emergencies or heavy warranty work will be the only way I'm found at the dealership.
