Just for clarification for a recovery beginner like myself, it's not the body that needs to be 3/4", it's the pin diameter, right? Most 3/4" shackles have 7/8" pins. If that's the case it's kind of confusing considering it's the 5/8" body shackle that has the pin diameter. So the link below wouldn't work in a standard bumper with 3/4" recovery points, correct?

3/4 shackles have 7/8 pins. Bumpers i have been around have a 1” hole to accommodate this size shackle. Verify you setup

Gotcha yeah, I was going off what the guy up towards the top that said 3/4" recovery points were pretty standard. Either way hopefully people don't get confused and assume when websites list "3/4" shackle" that that seems to be the body size with most websites I've seen, not the pin diameter.

EDIT: Thanks for the great information everyone, I just got my plate bumper mounted and this thread is a huge help.

EDIT #2: I checked my bumper and it, indeed, has a 1 inch hole. I think where my confusion came in is that on the website it says "3/4" steel recovery point" but that's just how thick the metal is.

I run CM shackles. I also have a soft shackle from MainLine overland I need to try out.
I also carry a bubba rope, tow strap, and a few endless slings. Good for saving cars with no recovery points that are stuck on the beach.

A 7/8" shackle usually has a nominal pin diameter of 1" and the distance between the bow is 1.44". A 1" thick tab will usually be for 3/4" shackles, which have a nominal pin diameter of 0.88", but may even work with 5/8" shackles. Confused? Yeah.

As stated name brands are the safe best. I will also add the Crosby web site just has a ton of good info. I would also suggest seek out local 4x4 clubs and attend Overland Expos for knowledge, classes and friends.

If you are going for Anchor shackles go for the real ones... Crosby, Columbus/McKinnon, are 2 of the best. Yes they are more expensive but they back their shackles.

What kind of hitch should I get for my shackle? Are they all the same?

I vote factor 55 because of the crazy emphasis they put on safety.

A lotta folks run the Vault or Rhino one off Amazon as well, and I'm pretty sure it is a "same OEM, different label" type deal for these.

I used smittybuilt and it works great. It’s a solid chunk of steel.

Crosby shackles are amazing. Pricey, but US made and rated. Would not try to save money in this department by getting Chinese no-names.
