I have always noticed my Taco takes 2-3 seconds to start, sometimes I let off the key too soon and have to give it a second try. This just seems odd for a modern engine, because both of my Tundras start within one second. I’m just curious if everyone else’s is the same way? Plugs were changed about 5k miles ago, but no difference.

My 08 is about the same, if your battery is new or still has a high CCA when testing it’s just the starter showing it’s age. I have 76k miles on mine and it still cranks fine just not as instant as a new/newer starter will

My battery is nearly new. The starter spins fast and strong, it just seems like the engine takes a couple of seconds to fire.

Mine too (2015). Thought is was odd when I got the truck this summer (coming from a Sienna that just takes a turn and tries till it fires....) Getting used to it.

My 2007 rolls over a couple times before it starts cold or warm. Seems normal to me.

Mine starts right away. It used to occasionally have a long/hard start here and there, which is normal with our fuel injectors.

Something is wrong with your truck, either a fuel pump pressure issue or starter issue.

Are you getting normal cranking but no start?

Do you park your truck on an incline overnight?

Mine probably takes a second or so. Turn the key, chug, chug, fire. Not as fast as some I've had that start practically the instant the key is turned from run to start.

The starter spins nice and strong, like it should. The engine also runs perfect, even at WOT... I just have to hold the key over for a few seconds before it starts. It seems like it turns over about 5 or 6 times before it fires. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold or hot, or where I’m at. Truck stays in garage overnight.

How long has it done this? And does it do it every start or just after the truck has been sitting awhile?

Sounds like a fuel pump issue like it's losing pressure.

Mines the same, engine turns over great, but it always takes a couple or three cranks to fire. My co-worker has a 48 Ford Coupe with a straight six & triple carbs, starts instantly, less than a full crank. Go figure.

P.S. it starts the same year round, summer, winter, & everything in between.

I have a 2015, it is my 1st vehicle. So I have no comparison.

Yet my father asked me about it when I 1st got the truck, and he borrowed it to do some yard work "Does it always take so long to start?"

My 2015 takes just a little longer than other vehicles I’ve had but I’m used to it, no big deal.

I bought it with 98k, and it has 107k now. It’s been this way the whole time I’ve owned it, almost two years. Same every start, it doesn’t matter if it has sat all night or 5 minutes.

Blame the hard starting on winter blend fuel !!

Not my truck but my 72 Camaro ( avatar pic) took probably multiple tries starting and once started it was trying to fuel foul the plugs

Mind you the garage temp was near 55° but the carb has a milled choke horn and Huge camshaft plus running a MSD 7AL2 plus Gold ignition box

The car has only been sitting in the garage 10 days !!!

Funny, I was just thinking of this over the past couple of days.....it’s like the truck hesitates to start in the morning. I almost felt like it was a bad starter or bad spark plugs. I don’t have to turn the key more than once but it seems to crank and then at the very last second hesitate and then it starts.

Been happening for years now and I’ve owned the truck since it was brand new back in 2010. My battery is brand new as of May so I know it’s not that. I’ve wanted to do something proactive to make sure the truck always starts but nothing comes to mind.

I just chalk it up to one of our trucks features which includes:clunk when going in reverse, thud while at a stop sign, ticking noise while going through a drive through, soft brakes, fuel gauge not going to full after filling up at a gas station if you fill the tank up with more than 3/4 showing on the fuel gauge, man the list goes on and on....... but I still love my truck!

I've got a friend with a 02 Ford Lightning with a built motor and only runs E85 . That has to be the hardest cold starting vehicle I've ever seen !!!!
