It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
I knocked a fender liner loose the other day. i need to clip it back in but ive never seen these kind of fasteners before and I dont know how to remove them. 1486576707468-1213209800.jpg

That looks like a push-pin type of clip, with the inner part missing.

    Similar to this (screw-in) one:

Hit up the dealer for a few replacements.

What's left in your photo should simply pull right out, as nothing is holding it in place right now.

And get yourself one of these trim tools, which will make removing such things a million times easier (than using a flathead of the like):

They just pull out, but they're a PITA to get out without distorting. Nothing is missing, that's how they are. I would suggest just grabbing the sumbitch with vise grips and pulling it out and getting a replacement from your local hardware store like the one that @0210 posted above. They would hold as little better (tighter) and get rid of that annoying rattle when you close your doors. While you're at it, do all 4 wheel wells. The rears are notorious for being loose and letting the plastic liners rattle.

Looks like your missing the push in part in the middle, go to auto store and get new ones.. a few bucks for 20 or so. And the tool shown above does make it much easier to remove them.

Again, there is nothing missing from that clip. The wheel well splash guards clip on using those. They do just push in and pull out (with enough force).

If you can get to the backside (engine bay in the front- no such luck in the rear) some needle nose pliers will help push it out.

They are a bitch to remove, have destroyed most of them and replaced them with nut and bolt.
Those fasteners are meant to support a screw (like a nut) to hold something.

I'll keep the zombie thread going, since I just noticed both my rear fender liners rattling like crazy, less than a month after warranty expired :)

They're aren't bad to remove once you get the knack. Take 2 pocket screwdrivers, slide them down you side of each tab that's in the center, push inward. This takes the pressure off the internal tabs. Hold that with one hand, while using small curved needle nose with the other hand, and pop them out . I removed front and back liners to oil spray. Didn't damage any, all reusable. Or, if you lack patience, side cutters with new clips

What if you use a larger plastic type screw and screw them into the center of the stock and it would push the side clips out to tighten then up? Dose that sound right or am I thinking wrong?

I know this is an old thread but it is what comes up on google if someone searches "tacomaworld remove inner fender liner clips."

This is all I need to see to successfully remove all the clips with the little empty square hole without breaking. Photo credit to Mr. 'Splitfuse' on the tundra forum- appreciate it.

Now I just need to figure out what to replace these with to eliminate an annoying rattle. I should have just ripped them all out because this is the most ridiculously designed clip I have ever dealt with.
