How Long Do You Let Truck Warm Up Before Taking Off?

I start it then before entune can fully boot up im out the driveway. Then 4 miles of 35, then up to 60 or 70. No issues

 

Do y'all let yours warm up in the winter

 

I grew up in the olden days where you had no choice but to wait for the quadrajet to come off the choke. I still feel the same way, it's usually not much more than a minute or so.

 

Ditto...showing our age...hehehe

 

No carbs to require idle warm ups, I mean sometimes I do it to keep the family warm before loading up, but I’m not doing it for the truck lol.

 

10 minutes of warm up time. Its -20 so ir's required.

 

Well, now that we have established a widely shared consensus among us...

 

I let my truck warm up as long as it takes the wife to get her shit together.

 

I was doing this until I grabbed the wrong thermos one morning. Engine got a coffee lube and I got a wake up shot of 0-w20.

I idle for about 3 seconds which is the time it takes me to check traffic and put it in gear. I don't gun it immediately since it takes me about 2-3 minutes to hit the highway.

I'm laying down rubber in driveway before my fingers are even off the key.
Seriously, I live in the northeast and if it's below 40°F, I let my vehicles warm up a minute or two; up to 10-15 minutes if it's zero outside.
My belief is the various metals used in the engine and tranny have different expansion rates as they warm and I like to bring them up to temp slowly.
Of course, if you live in a warm climate, no warmup is necessary.

Some of the answers on here make me glad that I don't buy used.

 

I let my Taco run long enough to put on seat belt, start Pandora, check surroundings, and shift into gear. This is typically 30-45 seconds. I am about 8 blocks away from a non-residential road with school children waiting for the buss on my way, and there is a stoplight at the corner out of the residential area. By the time I get to the light the temp needle is off the peg.

Note: I live on the east coast of FL, so I typically only experience sub 50* weather for a total of 2-3 weeks a year and most of the "cold" days are NOT consecutive. It is also FLAT and a few feet above sea level here.

At 5/6 am when I start my day , I have notice
Letting the taco (2018) Trd off road 4*4 warm up at least till the rpm s settle down from start up or temp neddle hits first bar after 1/2 min vehicle rolls off much better , when I do the start and roll out engine surges until warms up , over all it’s all oiled up parts why not give it a min to lubricarte itself before putting it to work can’t go wrong with it .

 

Let warm for about 30 secs. Time to buckle
up and to check everything out.
