anybody running their exhaust thru the lower rear portion of the bed side? I have seen a lot of trophy style trucks doing this and I like the look. just wondering if anybody has done the same and how they actually like it?

For a Tacoma, it would be more effort than it’s worth.

TT trucks and desert rigs do that since they are tube chassis or back halfed etc. and they have no obstructions. The benefit is not to have the exhaust at the lowest point, along with everything else on the underside.

On the Tacoma and most street trucks, you have frame rails in the way. You could route under the frame and then back up and out the bedside, but why? Could also go over the frame but that would hack the inside of the bed and place the outlet pretty high up.

I had a Ranger with fiberglass front and rear fenders and would have loved to make the exhaust dump out the bedside. I had to settle for a regular side exhaust dump.

it would be purely cosmetic. I don't like seeing the exhaust hanging under vehicles. especially trucks. I usually just hack the tailpipe off behind the rear wheel so you can't see it. but was just wondering how it would look to do it thru the bed side lower. I have a guy that can do it no problem and route the pipes so they aren't visible from behind the truck. just wondering if I want to cut a hole in my new truck to do so. may just hack this tailpipe off and be done.

On my 1st gen. It’s dumped before the r/s drive tire. I like the looks of it, I’d just rather not hear that much exhaust these days. I always suggest cutting the exhaust right after the rear axle.

No pics of the exhaust re route on the 1st gen on my phone, I may take one when I get home, its my most creative hydraulic exhaust bend to date. But that is exactly what happened... during the time frame of the 1st gen, I lived in the desert and I lived to BRAAAAAAPPPP. Now, in the time frame of the 3rd gen, I just wanna go home and lay down in peace :rofl:I don’t wanna hear ANY brapppps.

3rd I just cut it off after the axle, I can’t perceive any sound change, but my hearing is shot. Either way it’s quite to me, and won’t get caught up on the trail.

:facepalm:Just had a ”phew!” moment, thought he was talking about one of those manly smokestacks in the front side of the bed.

I bobbed mine with a sawzall just behind the last hanger and put a basic spout on it. It has good clearance, no sound changes, the fumes go down and back, and it looks good.

I want to do this, but I'm scared it will melt my spare or something.

Look. I’m not a tribologist, but there isn’t a chance in hell.

1st. I had to google tribology
2nd. You don't think so? That gives me some confidence. All the pics I see with exhaust chops on 3rd gens they all have their spare removed/relocated.

I ran turn downs on many trucks and never melted anything. you will be good.

unless you put the pipe up against the spare, there is no way you will melt it.

It’s been done, on a white TRD Pro. I’ll try and find it

Can’t find it, it was a fab shops build. This tundra version looks sweet though

the only reason I removed my spare was the same reason I cut the exhaust- didn’t want to drag over anything. Also I built a mount for it on my bedrack. But I wouldn’t have any worries had I left the spare there.

I didn't care for the Tundra one, but that's kinda cool.
