So I have had my truck about 6 months now and love it! But I am not sure if is the tires or what, I have the off road package, I have always had a sport. But this truck did not perform like my other trucks did in the snow we just got here in WNC. I have had a Tacoma with all terrain tires sense 2012. I have brand new Nitto Grapplers on it is what came on the truck and I put a 2 inch lift 5100s all the way around with 2 inch FOX coils in the front. I think its these nittos I have always ran BFGs but the last truck I had I had Falkens on it and they were just amazing in the snow. I never aired down or nothing with them. SO until I get a new set of tires for the future if we have anymore snow like this. I put it in low and I dont like to do that because I cant go faster like I normally do coming up my hill. But it just feels really loose I have never had any of my trucks spin on me like this or bog down after spinning to start loosing power in 4 Hi. I dont know just something does not seem right. Unless it was just this snow sense it was really wet and heavy or what it was. Any ideas on what to do to help? Or anything I am doing wrong. No I am not getting rid of my truck or anything so dont be that one guy!LOL I am just asking for some advise is all. Thanks.

You are saying that your truck started to loose power after slipping? You need to review the owners manual 4wd settings as the trucks have a handful of different selectable options, I'm not as familiar with the 3rd gen or I would provide you more info, but there are settings is to cut power when the wheels slip, you also have multi-terrain select which will regulate your throttle response. You can change the settings or turn them off if that is the case, which should solve the power issue. Some 3rd Gen guys should be able to provide more detailed info.

As to the slipping, that is the tires. Nitto has a whole line of different Grappler tires, so unsure one what ones you have based on 'Nitto Grappler', but generally speaking large treadblocks do worse on compact snow/ice than smaller ones.

    Interesting lift...sounds stiff as hell.
A stiffer suspension will have less grip than a softer one.

Between that, traction devices and tires...

Unsure where the reference to stiffness came in? The OR has softer suspension than the Sport.

If setting 5100s at 2” and adding 2” springs on top of that, definitely. I read it as a 2” lift using Fox 2” springs.

Not sure what part of the state you are in, but I had a difficult time also. I think it was the mixture of slush, snow, and bottom layer of ice.

I was aired down to 15psi on ST Maxx’s...which performed remarkable the last snow storm we had.
