3rd Gen 2017 Tacoma V6 motor question:

Hey guys, I recently totaled my 2015 Tacoma that I loved, and bought a 2017 with 5k miles.. Cant figure out why the engine sounds like a 1989 4cyl Corolla?? I drove a 2019 and it sounds the same way!! WTF did Toyota do from its 2015 model? My old V6 was all stock and sounded quiet, this new model sounds like a rice racer!! any ideas on what changed and how can I fix it!

I have owned all 3 Generation Tacoma's with V6's and none were quiet.

 

The Raptor sounds likes shit too with its V6

 

I think it sounds pretty good for a V6, I was pleasantly surprised! I can actually hear the exhaust unlike my Sienna, which had the same engine.

 

When I drove one it reminded me of a loud sewing machine. Not kidding.

Run open headers or add an after market exhaust.

Keep in mind these are not muscle car motors.

 

Did you test drive before you bought it? If yes, then you already knew what you were getting into

If you don’t like the sound, go buy a 2015 again with the manly motor and leave us little girls and their puny 3.5L minivan motors alone

 

It’s direct injected. That’s how direct injected motors sound. Go listen some of the newer Silverados. They sound like they have a valve tapping.

 

You bought a truck with no test drive? For shame!

 

I bet a fart muffler would sound good. LOL

note, when they say "less resistance" that means less compression. now you have something to keep you up all night thinking about.

Yes, the other motors are legendary workhorses. Yes those motors had life spans often counted in decades....but they fucking pale in comparison to the pinnacle of truck engine engineering, the mighty, the unmatched, the legendary 1 fucking GR-son of a bitching FE.

Sucks for you OP.... you bought a truck with a minivan motor. No one will ever love you again. If you're married, your wife will run off with the mailman. If you have a girlfriend, she will dump you for your sister. If you don't have a sister, she will dump you for HER sister. You lost the truck lottery with this one. You should have bought a Subaru, or a VW bug or a Minivan with a minivan motor. If I could give you a DISlike I would - simply because you bought such a stupid truck.

to me it sounds like a 5ton truck pulling in first gear lol I kind of like the sound. My plan eventually is put a Corsa exhaust on it . Now if u If Toyota would fix this bipolar transmission on the auto .
