I know a lot of people that are starting to collect parts so I'm gonna mention it here:
I'm about to post my SAS truck for sale. I dont feel like finishing it but someone else might, or just use it for the parts. Let me know if you're interested. Fronts a 79 Ford Dana 60 rear is a disc break 14bolt. Both have 4.88s but I have new 5.38s and master install kits on the shelf, ARBs front and rear, ARB compressor, Hardcore hubs too. 5" lift Chevy 63s out back, 14" FOA coilovers up front. 5 Pitbull 41.5s on 17" steelies, custom rock rings. Hydro assist, with Howe pump (the one RST charges $400 for). Engine, trans and Tcase are still in it. I pulled my crawlbox back out though to put in my other truck. Everything I have for it comes with it. $8k

Kicking around the idea of running long arm radius arms with a new front axle. Am I crazy?

    Pros:

-It would let me shove the axle forward to clear 40’s on the firewall. I can tighten up my bumper packaging too for a better approach angle.

-I can skip Hellfire knuckles and just run a RHD steering arm and y-link steering on the 80 knuckles

-Super simple to package and keep low. Great road manners too.

    Cons:

-Not going to flex as well as a three link

-Going to have to cut the frame off and make a new one to relocate the steering box and build a new bumper

-My leafs work super well now and require no maintenance

Your current setup works awesome, and links and new steering setup is a lot of work and money. Why not keep what you have and just tub some?

But also, that would be sweet for street driving

What's got you in the mindset of getting a new axle and setup?

I’d have to cut the entire firewall and lose interior trim to make 40’s fit with my current setup. Plus low pinion 8” and mini truck outers don’t last in the long term with 40’s either. I wouldn’t mind a wider axle with less scrub radius too.

TLDR: I’m making more in my new job than I anticipated and I’m seeking ways to watch it burn with bigger tires. :p

What about getting a HP 8", slightly wider Ruffstuff or new wider TG custom axle housing (havnt heard reviews yet, probably better than the Rock Assualt bs). Is the FJ80 bells really that big of a strenght difference? A few threads i've read they really are not, plus the odd sterring design and new setup for that. Then get intouch with Alcan,Deaver, etc. and get a new main and secondary leafset made to your current specs and just have the pin hole drilled forward 1.5" or so? Having new main leafs made could go with the eyelet built under the main leaf to lower the ride height even further. I'm toying with the idea as soon as I get my new axles under the truck.

80 outers are wayyy bigger and stronger than mini truck outers

I’d prefer to not go custom leaf pack and I’m going to have to cut the frame off to relocate the steering box to shove the axle forward so that makes me lean towards just redoing the whole thing to get a better approach and no more axle wrap/side to side movement when steering

If the box has to move forward that much for frame chop, than yeah I agree new frame and new platform for sure.

Chop the frame and turn the shackles around so they face the proper direction! It's fun wheeling and not having the axle trying to depart out from under the truck on every climb. Your shit will also be moving forward on compression, so less tubbing needed.

Meh, the passage of time and tech has not been good to Interco. There are better options out there.

That’s another part that makes me want to do something different. My axle walked farther out from under the truck than I ever thought possible a few times this year doing quite a number to my leaves in the process

Just looking at other options right now. I’d like some stickies in 42’s lol. I’ll see how these do I got first but always looking around haha.

Caging the xj next month and regear.
