Hello everyone!!! This is my first ever post. Life long Tacoma owner!!! So here’s my question:

About 2 years ago I bought a used 2012 Tacoma with 16k miles. Love my truck!!! Raising my 4 $ 7 year olds on Tacomas. Yesterday morning my truck was acting funny for the first time. It was very cold out. When I started it up it was kinda vibrating abnormally. I let it warm up for about 20 min. Check engine light was flashing. Went to drive it and it wouldn’t accelerate very well at all. I had to take my foot off the accelerator to get it to shift. I thought battery or transmission!! So I took it up to advanced auto to have the battery tested. It’s the original OEM battery. It tested good. 13 + volts. All was good there. I asked them to hook up to the OBD and run a test through it. When he went to hook it up he noticed 2 wires running into it. Would anyone have any idea as to why those wires are there or what they would trying to bypass? After that I started up my Tacoma and the check engine light went off and the truck ran like a champ. Went out and started it today and no problems. I’m not a car guy. Basic knowledge so if anyone can help or give me some input that would be great. Thanks!!!

Haven’t seen anything like that yet. Any electrical upgrades you’re aware of?

Only thing I’ve done electrical is change the speakers, head unit, and added an overhead DVD for the kids. All of which I’ve done myself. When I got it, it was just a basic Tacoma. Anything fancy I’ve added it.

Welcome to TW! Not sure what it is but someone did that after buying the truck since the OBDII port will just be a naked plug.

Interesting!!! So the wires that are running into the ODB port would be running from what? Would it do anything if I pulled the wires from the port?

That is not wires going into the actual port that is the connector plugged into the port it should have a tab to mash and then unplug.
