Let’s call it bang for the buck, not just cheap. Price range is 100-$200, component speaker set for the front doors of my 2011 dc taco. Power will be from a 22w rms kenwood head unit. There is a chance more power will be coming, but I may only end up with a powered sub. So these speakers have to work well with limited power.

Generally I prefer the sound of non-metallic tweeters. I don’t care if they are 6.5 or 6x9 as long as the installation is straight forward. I don’t have much time for custom installs. I was thinking hertz dsk or focal rse.

Let me know your thoughts. Also what is the value with buying from Crutchfield? I know they provide installation kits, are they worth it?

    Thanks

Been happy with my Kicker KS. Very smooth highs. I don’t like harsh tweets either.

Go with the driver that will give you more cone area - the 6x9 where you can.

A more sensitive speaker will be ideal here as power will be lower.

As for Crutchfield, they're arguably the best vendor for car audio. They're authorized dealers for everything they sell, customer service is top notch & they're just consistently awesome.

It's what I'm runnin' right now. DC's get all the fun. A/C's you gotta Shoehorn things in. Somethings take a little innovation but at the end the quality is only as good as the install. My $0.02, that's all.

If I go 6x9 there are definetly less choices. Something to consider...

Regarding Crutchfield, they usually send installation adapters, my question is are they of decent quality? Do they add value to to the purchase, or would I need to buy better ones.

I assume you mean speaker adapters. Every off the shelf speaker adapter I've ever seen has been chincy so I wind up making my own out of cutting boards. I have no idea what they send along.

Yeah, you certainly have fewer options in an oval driver, but if you can find one that's a good fit, it'll help squeeze the most out of your money & maximize bass response. You get more cone area with a 6x9. The low power you're going to use limits you more than anything as you'll want to stick to efficient drivers.

So the parts they add don’t add value to the transaction?

They are not the cheapest. eBay or Amazon will get better prices on speakers. I would go with Crutchfield if the wiring and speaker adapters were worthwhile.

The value Crutchfield gives you over eBay or Amazon is the brand you buy will be warrantied since Crutchfield is an authorized dealer. Some brands carry two-year warranties. eBay and Amazon prices are lower because those are not authorized dealers.

My guess is the speaker adapters Crutchfield sends you are plastic and i think they usually give you speaker harness adapters too so you can plug and play your new speakers. Considering you said you don't want to do a custom install the cheap plastic adapters are your best bet unless you want to fashion your own speaker adapters from MDF.

To my they do not but I'm not your average car audio consumer. To others (read most), they do.

No, they are not the cheapest. But they are an authorized dealer for their products and should you have issues with your gear they will make that painless for you. They'll also help you every step of the way should you need it. If it's the absolute cheapest price you need above all else, you know what to do. But you do make some sacrifices to buy that way. I order from them whenever possible but I also buy from reps and individuals quite a bit. I also get some stuff at cost because of where I work.

The wiring harnesses, if you need them, are good stuff and will save you time and grief. Not sure if you can use any of that though. The speaker adapters IME have been chincy ABS. They will work fine in a low power install but not one where your drivers are trying to rip the doors apart.

I had never heard of the ds18 until the end of last year. I went to listen to some in a demo car at a local shop and after 30secs I knew I would never own a pair. Maybe that’s all he knew but he was very proud of them
