That's a really good point, the cap is going to require some sort of suspension work, at least on the 2nd gen, so you're paying for more than just the price of the cap. Mine opened up an entire can of lifting worms.

I bought a new Softopper just before my recent elk hunt and it was loaded just like that! lol Could not have put another thing in the cab or the back of the truck! Have to be a bit more careful with mine to avoid tears though.

I had a Softopper on my ‘05 and it’s not a good fit now on my ‘18 so I’m going to sell the 2nd Gen unit and buy a 3rd Gen for the better fit. I’ve been real happy with the Softopper. I get stopped all the time with people asking about it. Pretty sure I’ve sold half a dozen or more over the past couple of years.

I love it so far! I'm not having as much trouble adjusting to the reduced visibility as I expected, but I'm waiting until I have to collapse it to haul my dirtbike before I give a full approval. :)

I do have to say though...while it's kind of a cool look, I prefer the truck without a canopy. I think it just looks cleaner. But...dry storage and keeping my Hi Lift, etc out of sight is worth it.

My Softopper does not leak and I’ve put it through some serious downpours.

Yes I would buy it again.

A fiberglass cap would be nice but its very expensive and I don’t want it on 100% of the time.
Its a lot of money for a cap and a mechanical lift... oh and a house that fits a lift lol

I'd 100% buy my hard shell again

I personally like the look of the access cab with a shell, makes it look longer and bigger IMO

Either way the utility of having longboard racks, a place to sleep and dry, locking storage in the bed is worth every penny

Taking full advantage, I like it!

I just thought of an upgrade - I do wish mine had the "windoors" that are painted. Being able to access things from the side would be nice, and I like the lack of visibility for passers-by.
The only problem stacking it full is wondering if the rear window popped open and your shit is falling all over the road.... I need to get on that backup camera "anytime" mod...

I have it down to hand bomb stuff for work and back up again in a minute.

Down for loading firewood and back up no problem.

Down to have a load of mulch or soil dropped in the bed with a front end loader and back up and on the road again.

The ease of dropping the top and the fact that you have the same cargo space as a hard top is why I bought it.

Haha! Yeah, a lot of people told me that it looks like a grandpa truck... I'm still on stock OR suspension, but I think it looks badass. Got a photo handy of your rig?

Exactly. If you're not constantly hauling, the bed can sometimes feel like a misuse of space. I had mine stuffed to the gills on my last trip and it never would've worked without it.

Loving the leer 100xr so far. Finally came in and got it installed a few days ago. My truck actually rides a helluva lot better now that it has some weight in the back. The only weight I had was a Bak flip g2 on a full set of dakars. It will experience its first rain showers this weekend.. heres to no leaks!

There is something very satisfying about opening the rear window, feeling around for your gear, and it not being damp, wet, or covered in dew.

Although my soft top never really leaked aside from where I didn’t seal the front of the bed, I can definitely tell the seals are better on the snugtop. Wouldn’t be surprised if the headliner plays a role here, too.

In the 90’s I bought a truck with a cap. I figured I’d sell it, cause i was young and didn’t like the look. But after one camping trip, I couldn’t get rid of it. In my opinion they make the truck 100% more useful. Today’s caps look 100% better too.

Now I just have to convince my 15yr old son...

I had a softopper from 2011 to 2018 and while I don't know how I lived without it, I kinda decided that I would be better off with either a hard cap or a locking tonneau. The softopper shrunk down badly over the past few years and was a MF to close it. It was also hard to clean, had a musty smell where I couldn't dry it out and overall looked not-great. In fairness I got my money's worth out of it and I had no real complaints about the softopper other than the shrinkage and frankly I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did in the southeast. If I'm going to keep a topper on there year round, I decided it would make more sense to get a real topper for the new truck but I'm leaning towards a tonneau because for the flexibility of having an open bed. I actually missed that.

Just picked up a Snugtop off fb marketplace and I can honestly say, why haven't I done this sooner. I rarely haul anything that is taller than the cab and if do, I can borrow my pop's full size F-150. I love the bed space for misc gear that I used to throw in the back seats. Already gonna be handy for this weekends Tahoe trip.

One thing about the Bestop soft top I hated was there was a bit of a learning curve to open and close properly. Tailgate before window was a bit of a puzzler. Then getting that bar in just right before closing the gate, etc.

Stoked with the snugtop keyless integration. It works as you’d expect as if it were OEM.

I love my Leer cap, only complaint I have is mine leaks. Been back to the installer 3 times, each time they remove it and try to seal it better. Still keeps leaking in the same spots. Anyone else have the same type of issue?

Probably have to seal it with silicone and/or foam tape in certain areas. Where exactly is it leaking?
