7-Pin Trailer Harness/Plug Replacement Tip

My wiring knowledge is so poor I'm ashamed of it. Have tried multiple napa style plugs but can't figure out which wires go where. Luckily I don't have to tow, ever. But I want that ability. Better to have and not need than need and not have!!

 

I am pretty much the same way, which is why i haven't completed this yet. I was hoping to find one on E-bay or a wrecked truck to just swap. But it looks like i may have to just spend an afternoon learning from experience. Good luck, they first page has a pretty detailed pictured step by step.

I was able to go to a local Honda dealer and have them price match their online price of $45... they were a little perplexed when I told them I didn't have a Ridgeline and kept telling me I needed to go to Toyota, but they eventually sold it to me.

 

So Im a little confused....will this plug into the factory trailer harness plug? I will make a new mount for the plug in my bumper if so

 

No. It goes something like this.
Truck harness{connector}trailer harness{7 pin connector}

You are missing the red part. The terminals in the Honda part are the same as the terminals in the Toyota 7 pin connector. So, if you had the red Toyota part, you could connect it to the Honda 7 pin connector. But you don't. The blue connectors are different between Toyota and Honda.

I dont have the plug or the factory connector so I am trying to find a way around the $200 toyota replacement.

 

The cheap way is not the easy way. If you want the cheap way, you need to chop the connectors off the truck harness and then extend the wires on out to the 7 pin, universal, screw terminal, trailer connector.

 

I know, i just dont know what wire goes where and would rather a plug and play. I dont mind getting under there and doing it but I know the plug would be better

 

A DVM or simple test light along with a friend to activate switches and press pedals and you'll be all set.

I know just didnt want to have to go that route, I just did it with a dodge I had. I guess me a buddy a few beers and a test light have a date in the near future

I would just wire up a standard 4 pin unless something you tow requires 7...

 

The 4 pin is already there but my side business is lawn care and that trailer plus my bass boat trailer are 7 pin

 

Those wire colors that Anthony posted aren't entirely correct. Those are the colors if you just chopped off the 7 way connector and attached a replacement. Unfortunately, Brent doesn't have that plug in harness part. He has nothing after the inline harness connectors. So, the truck harness wires are different colors, than the wires after the harness connector.

Any luck on replacements other than stock? Just checking before I tackle the cut and splice next week.....

 

I bought the honda part but haven't installed it yet.. Currently I just hacked off the end of my old plug and covered the exposed wires. It was a trailside fix that has lasted for 6 months... Come spring time I'll wire up the honda part.

 

That means you really dont need it, send it to me so I can use it and put it to work
