    Um, so yeah.

    This video is utter bull.

The "noises" from the Tacoma, are 100000000000000000000000% designed to happen by Ford in that demonstration.

THE TACOMA'S REAR DOES NOT TOUCH THE INCLINE. EVER.

If you pay attention, Ford has attached some kind of piece onto the Tacoma's tow hitch that hangs down that creates "the noise" the Ford Guy points out as it goes up the incline. The little flap hangs down and hits some metal grate, creating the noise, as it goes up the incline. Pause the video @ 3:58 and 4:39...whats that hanging down, intentionally designed to make noise.???????

The Ranger also has some kind of piece attached to it's hitch. It's clearly shorter than the piece on the Tacoma's hitch. @5:38

Based on the photos/videos posted in this thread, the Ranger’s interior is far more luxurious than the Tacoma’s.

This Ford Ranger video confirms my suspicions that an American spec Ranger with the 2.3L Ecoboost was tested in the Australian Outback. That part of the world has one of the harshest conditions known to man. Toyota is known to test the U.S. spec Land Cruiser in exotic conditions such as the Outback. As I recall, the Tacoma was never sent to Australia to be tested in such conditions. What is funny is the Ranger I test drove last month had exactly the same ride and feel as my 100 series Land Cruiser.

Also keep in mind Australia has the power stroke as an option there. I do work for a couple ford dealerships and service is always busy. I love the idea of this truck but idk if I can trust a ford power train for a permanent vehicle. I think the eco boosts are super impressive as far as efficiency and power go, but boy all the master techs won’t drive them.

Official MPG numbers are out for the 4X4 Ranger. It's best in class at 20 city, 24 highway, 22 combined.

20 city with a brick under the fast pedal. I can’t see 20 city with the turbo involved..

I can see it with the 10 speed transmission. Plus that turbo is tiny.

Hm I’m skeptical of this in real world scenarios.

The Ranger I test drove last month had 24.7 MPG average on the dash and that's with multiple people test driving on short trips at frequent and slow speeds. The fuel at the time was halfway between full and 3/4 full.

Spent two years working in Australia - working on projects in Alice Springs, Broome. Coober Pedy, etc. Still go back once a year to visit friends.

All you see in the boonies are Toyotas. Everyone has a fucking Toyota. Not many of them are NA turbos...why?

Because NA turbos suck in hot weather. Even without operating in extreme heat, Motor Trend has already noted that the 2.3 EB has a mysterious power loss issue.

    https://www.motortrend.com/news/ecoboost-mustangs-getting-slower/

They have also been noted to crack their blocks when tuned for mild torque gains.

    https://youtu.be/CuGodKdRLpE

....and the 10 speed auto has not proven itself. Threads like this are very commonplace:

Man, I could pull multiple past threads on 3rd gen Tacomas on tow trucks because of issues but I won't go there.

Although similar, hopefully Ford got the bugs out of the 2.3 for the Ranger since it's been out awhile.

From that video, that’s a giant chunk of $$$ that needs to spent for that ironing. After watching it and seeing that block I’ll keep my cast iron thank you.

    Non-diesel.

For some reason auto correct doesn’t let me type “ND Turbo” without changing the ND to NA.

Forced induction gas engines need to maintain a proper stoichiometric air fuel ratio. In a turbo gasoline engine, the intake charge will be less dense on a hot day than on a cold day. Engine management will adjust the fuel/air mixture accordingly and the result is more power on a cold day due to more oxygen.

Conversely in a diesel, the rule of thumb is that they run lean with much excess air provided than needed (especially with forced induction).

Diesel is less sensitive to lean conditions, and are therefore largely unaffected by the temperature differences that would affect a gasoline engine. Forced induction evens it out even more.

Bottom line, not a lot of non diesel turbos being in the, ahem, proving grounds of the new Ranger. Lots of turbo diesels, and yes some non turbo gas engines.....
