They'd look a hell of a lot better if they'd made the top of the air cleaner flush with the roof line .They put it super high, so it's even more likely to snap on branches. Odd design move on Toyota's part. I get that the main purpose is to move the air inlet higher, but those extra 2 or 3 inches can't make enough of a difference to justify that design...

I'm also worried that the trd will interfere with aftermarket racks since it's so high, the arb/dobinson definitely sits low enough

Plus, I haven’t looked at the price but, I’m sure the OEM one is ridiculously overpriced.

I couldn't build one with the snorkel on toyotas website, but if the pro graphics package is 600$, I gotta assume the trd snorkels gunna be over a K

Just bite the bullet and order one. Unfortunately for me I already ordered the arb before I knew about this. Oh well ...

I can't justify it right now. It'd be 90% appearance and 10% functional, I have other shit to buy first.

They have to worry about visibility as well. Think of all the jackasses that would sue after they crash their pros and blame it on the DAI they couldn’t see around. They also have to contend with crash testing which seems unlikely but could be affected by the placement of the DAI. So yes it’s ugly but at least the OEMs are trying to make new products and appeal to the off-road crowds.

Good points. I just wish they'd be able to lower it. Maybe the OEM snorkel can be modified or even cut down a bit.

You could cut it off and lower the head or buy a new one to attach to the snorkel body. You do run into fabricating a new Mount for the A pillar since it attaches to the roof rack holes. Wouldn’t be too hard to do and the top of the snorkel is pretty cool with the TRD logo in it.

Well, I installed my snorkel today and came away with the following, the snorkel is a nice product and built as well as any other on the market. Installation would have been easy if Dobinson has taken a little more time on the template sent with the snorkel. The mounting holes were off just enough that it caused quite a bit of time fine tuning the holes with a grinder granted the fender has some pretty complicated angles not helping Installation. One of the holes as mentioned earlier is about an inch off. But overall if the template was accurate I would say its one of the best purchases I have made for the truck so far.

    Yep!

Did you use the A-pillar bracket?

I installed mine tonight. I had the same problem with the mounting holes being a little off. Apparently I didn't see step #6. I couldn't figure out how to use the A pillar bracket as the snorkel doesn't quite align right to allow that easily. Overall I am VERY PLEASED with this snorkel. Can anyone take a picture of their snorkel from the backside right on the body line?
    Thanks!

No, think I will go the double back tape and see how that works. The bracket would work but it doesn't lay flat and seems plenty strong enough. May have to rethink it at a later date. It really hard to drill into the A pillar.

Everything worked out perfect. A-Pillar bracket is installed with screws too.

You're thinking of @Hodakaguy build. He used 3m tape on his pillar.
