Yeah I just can't believe that none of my other trucks did it. My 04 Tacoma never did it. My Dodge 2500 didn't with 800+ lb/ft of torque. I also had a Titan and a Silverado that didn't either. It makes me wonder if they just don't want to sack up and spend the money to fix it, or they truly don't know the cause.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
^^^ ... I "slightly" get this "thump" sometimes (sounds like a loose shaft bumping forward).

Only had truck 6 days and maybe 250 miles in burbs driving ...

EDIT: 04-15-2016 = Out of maybe 50 stops at lights and red lights & etc. today ... I only had 1 slight thump.

I have only had my truck for less than 300 miles and have experienced it several times. I thought it might be the transmission since I have read of many posts of trucks being delivered with low transmission fluid. The dealer that I bought it from would not check the transmission before delivery and since I have a warranty they told me it will be covered anyway. This does not take away the pain in the butt from having to go to the dealer for things other than routine maintenance. Hopefully, someone will find a solution since it is detracting from my customer satisfaction.

Do you need to know, or care?
I've had my tranny topped and I still get it occasionally. Mine seems to happen when cold and road is wet, but it is not often, maybe 4 times after 1200 miles on my truck. Varying degrees, couple harder, couple just noticeable. Each time on a slight incline, so not sure if that plays into it or not, but yet to feel it on level ground. Never had it on my Gen 2, so gives me a little concern.

Mine still does it but not very often at this point. I've learned to really feather the gas pedal when I know I'm coming to a stop and I'm super conscious about coming to a hard stop. Regardless, I generally feel it in the morning when cold.

Does anyone know if the TSB 4 leaf pack was standard on the 2015's? I know my '16 only has 3 leafs.

Possible resolution!!! So, I had my DS replaced (which I pushed for) and thought that was the issue. It wasn't. The field rep and shop foreman have been trying to figure this out, and I think they finally did. They ended up drilling a hole in my DS just forward of the slip yoke. The hole is just behind the u-joint, and their theory is that a pocket of air gets trapped when the DS extends and contracts causing a sudden the pressure change. This change basically causes a pop or jolt that can be transferred into the cab at times or just slightly heard. This hole allows air pressure to escape and obviously equalize easily. I have not heard anything since. No thumps, bumps, nothing! Completely silent for 5 days. This was a daily/morning sound for me for 7k miles until now.

So, I'm slightly concerned of running around with a hole in my DS exposing elements to my slip, but I'm covered if there's a failure. The hole is very small, approx 1/16 drill bit was used. I would have never thought that this could be the potential issue. Keeping fingers crossed they're finally on to a fix. I'll report back in a few days to the field rep so they can run it up the chain.

Cool; kind of old fix though.
Are you worried about grease getting out or contaminants in?

That's incorrect. This thud/axle wrap has been an ongoing Toyota issue for years and isn't just limited to Tacomas. T4Rs had it the worst a couple years back.

Kind of. I mean this is my DD so I don't wheel it. No grease has come out at all and I've driven it 500 miles since. I told them when they did it that I don't mind testing out the theory, but I'm not going to settle for a half assed fix. When they get it figured out and a TSB comes out I'll get it fixed the RIGHT way. The "fix" is in my service history, so even if I move I'm good and covered. They also overfilled my trans by a pint to see if it helped my delay from R to D. We'll see how that goes, but I'm going to push for an extended trans warranty.

Been reading all the comment here because I've noticed the same thing on my '17 Sr5 auto. Especially when its cold and I start out but not make it thru 3 gears in the tranny. The "THUD" seems to be coming from the back...like something is rolling around in the bed and bangs into the truck bed. If I didn't know better I'd swear it was my son and his girlfriend in the truck bed rolling around.

Now this is interesting...try it when you shift manually in the sport mode. I don't seem to have it.

Still digesting information... me thinks there's too much info sharing on this post!

    Son and girlfriend..??

I thought it sounds more like a basketball rolling around... see a lot less personal without the creep factor...

I’ve had it since I bought my truck. Haven’t been able to repeat it at dealer or with fireman. At 11k now. Just annoying me and still keep taking it in since I live up the street from my dealer. They prob hate me
