Not at all if you're on a budget. I ran my hardtail for 3 years in TX and 4 years here before it got stolen. Hell I rode full rigid for a year.

Yes, Modern FS is nice and comfortable and efficient. But to get a decent build kit and decent weight, it's going to add up.

Going second hand on FS, the recommendation is to possibly spend a grand having it checked out and all the pivots plus shock refreshed. That's worst case, but possible.

Going more than a few years old, and the geometry and technology are lacking behind the current offerings.

Hardtail is also very good at building solid riding technique that is transferable to a FS in the future.

Hardtails are great, you do get beat up a little more when riding the PHX trails but they are capable and light.
Loved my full rigid single speed that I am really upset I sold! Old steel frame was sweet until there was a lot of climbing!!!!

Honestly, I think the hardtail is the way to go if on a budget. I went balls deep on a FS and could have spent 1-2K more easily for the stuff I wanted. I still have yet to get it on dirt! It will happen soon!

Got my brakes broken in, gripping a lot better now, still feel the front could lock up a bit faster/tighter but just might need an adjustment is all, they are XT, so not horrible but also not top of the line.

Also got my clip ins adjusted to my liking, for the right amount of being locked in but still easy to click out.

Started to unbox the bike stand, but the daughter woke up and was asking for me, so play time ended.

Mine is all adjusted, I just cannot seem to get the bike out on dirt. This weekend started out great than went to shit in a hurry. Everything that could go wrong did. Did manage to get my friend moved in but may have broken a few toes in the process so not moving all that well!!!

Yo! New to AZ as of 13 months ago and even newer to the Taco scene (about a month). Me and a few friends will ride either SoMo, McDowell, Papago or Usery every weekend. If anyone wants to ride, let me know.

Hit FINS this morning and had a blast. Just wish I was in better shape so we could ride longer! Will have to head out there again soon!

Bump this old thread. Im down to ride any time. Also riding a 29er hardtail, Im usually not wearing baggies though, some of the guys on here might not be ok with tight clothes on a man hah. Typically on the faster uphill side but Ill go slow for the slo-pokes. Usually ride on the north side, would like to check out south mountain.

Would anyone be interested in doing a bike packing or extended trip from Prescott to Phoenix? Been wanting to do the trip for awhile. Starting in Prescott and taking the Senators highway to Crown King for an evening of brews and burgers, followed by a second day from CK back to the lake pleasant area either via the crown king trail in reverse or the black canyon trail that follows the i-17. Would give a good mix of terrain and more of a relaxed and scenic ride. Random pic of my xcaliber 29er HTFCF28490-C155-4ED9-A066-37F4FFA059EC.jpg

I love to ride...stoked I just found this. Gravity is my main jam, but up for some trails too. Got a few 29ers and DH rigs to hit whatever.
