Alright I got a question for you fox gurus. I recently bought a set of of the 2.5 ifp coilovers about 2 weeks ago and just found out they were rebuilt by accutune after getting taken off the previous owners truck. I bought them with the 13” 600lb coils on them as the previous owner didn’t have any extra weight up front. Anyways, I put the king 14” 700lb coils on the other day and it’s a hell of a difference without having the massive preload with my fully armored truck. Anyways, I’ve been wondering why the shock body is mounted thru the coil bucket rather than most fox 2.5 c/o’s that I see and are mounted below the mounting point in the coil bucket. Is it an IFP thing, updated design? or whats the difference? Included pics of my setup and pic of what I’m talking about

mine has a small hump but not as big as yours, maybe difference with reservoir models

on a different note, anyone got info on the thread/pitch and length of the allen head bolt that locks the collar? the shop that rebuilt it nearly rounded out the allen head

I believe it's just a 1/4-20 socket cap bolt. At least if memory serves a 3/16" Allen key is what I use. I have never completely backed it out so I do not know how long it is.

Which is important to mention, if you are adjusting your ride height with the coil overs on the truck only loosen that bolt enough so the collar can turn. Do not back it out completely, that can let the collar slip or strip the threads.

That raised top eyelet design is unique to IFPs and increases the internal nitrogen volume. Remote Reservoir shocks have the lower top cap.

well that 1/4-20 bolt was a no go, it needs to be much finer, it is however a 1.5" in length

reached out to fox once again to ask for the specs of the bolt since the first time they gave me some info it was way off on what it was.

So this is what I've been running for a few hundred miles. 2.5s extended travel with 2 1/4" on driver and 2" on passenger. Stock 600lbs springs.

I like the stance especially with the progressive 3leaf AAL with overload that I did in the back.

Going for an alignment next week so now is the time to adjust. It drives firm, which I'm starting to like, but just curious if others have done it and issues arose.

Get you some new springs. By the looks of it first off, you’re lifted way too much and need to bring it down a bit so you have adequate down travel (just my opinion) I’d recommend Eibach or king 14” 650lb springs for your turd gen with no weight. I have second gen with a bunch of weight and run 14” 700lb springs and the preload and ride is awesome. 24B51C7E-24C1-487D-BA1C-8CA697C98095.jpg

I run similar preload on the front with headstrongs stage 2 fox package (FOX Factory Series 2.5”) and I've seen another members build who runs the same on the front. Speed freak who installed my suspension said it wasnt a major concern and theres two diff opinions (2 inches bad and 2 inches fine from a fox rep...all hearsay (from two diff members who said they called and asked about that kind of preload on the extended coils). So the jury's out.

I pre loaded mine to balance the rear rake with my medium duty dakars which raised the rear around 2.5 nches + (my estimation only). I rather just have a 2 inch or less lift. I hope the rear settles half an inch in the next few months.

I havent wheeled it yet but have no issue YET with the current setup. Some fire roads and mall crawling only. Will head to calico end of Jan For real off road tests.

But your setup Looks good and good luck with what you end up doing!

****edit I measured close to 2.9 inches of thread showing on driver side coilover*****

Yeah I haven't had issues, but I haven't had it on for that long either. I might lower it to 2" driver and 1 3/4" passenger and call it a day. These suckers are almost impossible to adjust even with tire off...

It will be ok the 600 pound spring needs a lot of preload to get the lift. I started with about 1 1/2" and ended up with around 2" had no problems... Only good for 2" of lift but you can get more..

The 650 pound spring only needed 3/4" of preload.. So for more lift or weight the 650 is much better.

So your running a 650 lb spring, stock size? Not the larger 14" coil that others have run? I will look into this and possibly replace my front spring with a 650 if it doesn't mean getting the longer coils/springs.

I have minimal weight up front with ONLY steel RCI front skid...if I'm stupid I'll throw on a front bumper but it would weigh less than 160 lbs. So maybe 200 lbs directly up front over stock.

I do have some steel sliders and a recent install of a prinsu rack (I'm my own definition of a basic taco bitch now, minus the light bar or ditch lights.... :bananadead: )

What do you think? Thanks again shr133, as I'm a 4x4 off road NEWB.
