Nice - yeah I messaged them and BAMF as I’m in California so pick up may be easier. I need to get rid of these tubes ASAP

The slides will definitely be much better. Nice setup in that truck. I like those 3rd gen wheels. They go well with silver

Truck is sold. I bought a 2nd gen AC 4x4. Hopefully I'll start a build thread on it soon. I have a few parts starting to pile up in the garage for it
Here's a photo of it from a couple weeks ago the day I brought it home. I was dirty AF and needs some good detailing. I've been working on that aspect of it first before I start wrenching on it.

Wow! Didn’t even know you had planned selling it. What made you sell it to begin with ? Stayed with any 1st gen parts ? Congrats on the new truck by the way.

I didn't really plan on it. I found a good deal on a 2nd gen up near Espanola, then I was talking to a buddy of mine about the possibility of selling my reg cab and he was into buying it. So it just sort of worked it self out.

LOL. Yeah it was pretty sic. I liked it a lot. I loved that I could drive that thing almost anywhere because of it's small size.
I just need another vehicle that I can put my kid into as well now that we have number 2 on the way in a few months. I feel like I am backing up a boat now when I drive the new truck!

How did you like the megasquirt? I’m torn on which model to go with but it’ll likely be the megasquirt 3 with expansion. How is the tuning of it? That’s probably the one part of the setup I’m worried about. Definitely excited to get this for my turbo 3rz though. Tired of running lean! And definitely start a thread for the new pickup!

man you're a beast! a supercharged reg cab is so sick, and ideal.

Also, you shred the gnar on a SS.

Yeah dude I love riding the SS! I switched back to geared for like a month and went right back. I’m addicted to it now!
The Megasquirt was awesome. I used it on both a turbo and s/c setup. The hardest part was researching all the wiring and software settings for it. Once it was in and working properly, the tuning was pretty easy. If you buy the entire unlocked version of the software, it has an Autotune feature that works really well for driving out of boost. It really smooths out a lot of the jerky-ness you feel going in and out of throttle.
You really can’t beat the standalone control you get over fuel and timing. With proper timing maps, you feel such a huge torque increase in and out of boost.
I’ve only used the MS3 with the expansion pack so I can’t compare the others. But for the price compared to other standalone units, you really can’t beat it. Lmk if you have any others questions about it. And if you do get it, lmk if you need help with the wiring or software set up.
I have the wiring stuff I did for it in my other build thread for the turbo truck. I think it is on page 11 or 12 if you want to check it out.

Sweet man! Yea I was torn between the ms2 with the 3.57 or the ms3 with expansion. The wiring I’m not so worried about. It seems pretty self explanatory for wiring but yea if I have someone that knows how to tune one, that would make life a breeze! Did you buy the full tunerstudio software? I had no clue of the auto tune feature which seems really nice to have. Did you use your factory iac, iat and knock sensor inputs? I wanna keep as many stock components as I can for sure. I appreciate the info! How’s the new taco? I’ve read through your turbo thread and this thread here and have learned a lot.

I did get the full version primarily for the auto tune feature. It’s so worth it. There’s a Miata guy on YouTube that has a bunch of videos on how to tune with the software. They are very helpful in getting you going. Once you understand the software it’s really easy to tune with. It’s just entering numbers. Pm Kurt on CustomTacos as well. He’s the one that helped me out tremendously with setting it all up.

I used all the stock sensors. The AIC was tricky to get going but I was able to figure it out. I had planned on using a GM intake temp sensor to get rid of the maf altogether. Just never got around to it.

I’m glad my threads have been able to help you out. Lmk if I can answer anything else for you.

New trucks been great. I’ve just been working on it like crazy trying to get it how I want it. Hopefully this one I’ll keep for a lot longer!

That’s what I had planned was to go to the gm iat sensor for the purpose of getting rid of the maf. Seems to be the better way with just the map sensor. Yea I figured the iac was a tricky one. The MS3X is definitely the one I’m gonna go with. Better to have more options then what you necessarily need. Yea reading your threads about your turbo were extremely helpful. Made my turbo install a breeze. Well anyways, thanks for the info. I’ll shoot you a pm down the road if I have trouble with the MS3X install. Thanks again.

    Boostedka,

Read up on both your builds. Thanks for sharing all the info. Did you run the megasquirt standalone setup on both the turbo and supercharged setups? Any drivability issues with either setup? Recalled you mentioned the turbo setup didn't idle below 1600... Did you ever record gas mileage with both setups? I wonder if the turbo helped with fuel economy (light throttle) vs stock?? We recently retired our 3rz taco due to a rusted frame with a 3rz 4runner. Even with the same engine the 97 4runner is definitely slower than what we're used to from the taco...

Hey man, yeah I ran the megasquirt on both trucks. The supercharged one needed to have a little timing pulled out of it I think because of boost coming on earlier. I was able to get it to idle normally on the supercharged truck. The fix was simple, I just needed to set the vvt wire output to idle and it worked perfectly. Once I got all that dialed in, it drove extremely well. Super responsive and torque-y both in and out of boost. On the stock ecu with the blower, it would fall on its face. The turbo truck ran much better on the stock ecu then the supercharged one did. Gas mileage was much better on the turbo truck with the stock ecu, almost like when it was all motor. It was probably about even on the two trucks with the Megasquirt once it was tuned. Lmk if you have other questions
