Im looking at either putting a 40" 5w light bar on my rack (i've heard the hood glare is a bitch) or dual lp9s on my bumper. I like to run desert roads at night.

    Thoughts?

Forward of the hood is definitely most ideal. Massive foreground glare from the hood significantly reduces your ability to see distance at night, then when’s you turn it off your eyes are constricted from the glare and your ability to see is worse than before you turned it on.

Hood glare can be mitigated by some matte black vinyl on the hood and if you're mounting it on your rack you can recess it slightly into the wind fairing to the point that light won't even touch the hood.

I don't know about Black Oak but I believe Baja Designs offers a 5% discount for TW members with a coupon code.

Between the two I would think BD would be the better light, for your purposes, BO is a good choice but BD are probably more useful light as they are a warmer color, closer to daylight than pure white; slightly blue. Better for dessert terrain IMHO.

The warmer light helps a lot with depth perception, the white light can flatten terrain and make the difference between seeing a woop and being able to brake and missing it completely until your wheels are off the ground.

That said, the higher the light is the farther your throw is going to be the better long distance track picture you can get as well as the light is less likely to be blocked by burms or dust.

It's really a trade off positive and negatives for both, ideally you would run both a high light bar for high speed long distance and front lamps for lower speed detailed sight.

Morgan @sidetracked offers a good deal to TW members on Rigid Lights, just bought some street legal Rigid fogs from him.

I'm kind of addicted to LED's.

I run Rigid D2 driving beam pods as ditch lights and have a 50" Rigid Spot/Flood lightbar mounted on top of the windshield.

Just got my bumper need to install the Rigid SAE fogs and then I'll be looking for some front lights like the LP9s or something.
