@FrayAdjacent plenty of options out there for sure. This option would probably be most ideal for the 1/2-3/4 ton trucks who are pulling longer trailers and likely more often too. Most kits are like you mention, with a wireless signal to a phone or extra screen. The only kit I’ve seen utilizing the factory head unit screen requires wiring all the way to the dash and jumping or splicing to the factory wire loom. After this crazy NorCal fire season I’ll start putting more energy into cleaning this one up.

I was just dreaming of this the other day! Very interested! I would cool to be able to turn it on to view what is behind a travel trailer when your going to down the road.

Well, that is an option that I’m definitely considering adding on. It is not all that complicated, especially if you use the anytime camera mod that others have posted here on TW. More to follow this winter unless someone else beats me to it.

I had an anytime camera on the back of my enclosed car trailer in my '05 Taco. I just traded it in for a '17 TRD Sport. Loved seeing what was coming up behind before I changed lanes.

Please add me to the list.

Interesting! We are having our vintage trailer restored and this would be a great addition. @UplandExplorer Did you get this "kit" available for purchase?

OP hasn't been around since 11/20. Hope he wasn't affected by the Nor Cal fires.

I'd certainly be interested. We have a camper that has a pre-wired bracket on the back. Systems can of course be purchased that add the camera to this and an extra monitor inside the vehicle. I'd like to combine the "anytime camera mod" with both a front of truck camera and back of RV camera. If anyone has found anything let us know. On my way over to the anytime camera thread now to ask them. I do know that there was someone there that posted details on 3 cameras.....

    Good luck to the OP.

This is a great forum. I have picked up some very good ideas here. Just now setting up a TW account so I can reply to this conversation.

I have spent some time now looking for a solution for a rear view camera for our 22 foot travel trailer. My biggest problem with most kits is where to put the monitor?

I came across this conversation which lead me to put together the components to switch cameras automatically.

I am using 4 relays in waterproof box with fuse to switch camera inputs to OEM monitor. By use of a jumper wire on the trailer side of the add on camera plug. When the camera cable is plugged up it will:

    Send 12volts to trailer camera.

Isolates the 6 volts to the OEM camera.

Connects the ground wires to trailer.

    Switch camera inputs to truck.

Relay box installed, I was afraid it was too big, but it fit like a glove.

View from OEM tailgate camera, backing up to RV. BTW the OEM camera is very useful for backing up to trailer.

View from trailer camera after connecting add on trailer camera plug. The wide angle is better than it appears the bottom of the ladder is about 3 foot behind trailer and about 4 foot to the side.

Have only tested in driveway so far, but will be going camping next week. I will follow up with some reviews from the road.

If anyone wants more details on components or wiring diagrams let me know. But please beware about half way through the install I was thinking wireless may not be so bad!

Thanks to everyone on TW who share there ideas.

Also I have the anytime front camera mod already installed. This allows me the pull up the cameras with a couple presses of the buttons on the steering wheel.
I also found it helpful if you press the camera icon when trying to upload pictures.
