After searching the forum I see this is not uncommon for spares that are rarely used. I drop mine down every 500 miles (every week) to check and adjust pressure in it. This tire has been under the truck for 2500 miles and I already have indentations from the frame. They can be felt on the inside of the tire as well (dismounted to check). No idea what kind of effect this will have on reliability, balance, etc.

Any one come up with a solution to this? I'm thinking of finding a scrap 17inch tire and cutting sidewall out of it to use as a barrier between the tire and frame.

You are fine. Over-sized tires will leave minor indentations from the brackets. If you're taking it down every week maybe take some more time to make sure you are actually putting it back correctly. Before you crank the hoist tight get on your back and align it within the brackets so its on tread rather than sidewall.

It’s not big deal. Also, like, if you need an activity, I need some ants. Or 1 (one) black widow. You could capture a Texas critter for me. You don’t have to spend your free time jackin around with wheels.

Cosmetic only. Unless you are missing chunks will have minimal effect on balance. Structurally won't matter until it hits the cords.

I think it's already been decided that you need something to do, so why not just throw the spare on and find out first hand whether it makes a difference or not ;)

That said, it's rubber and just like it gets the indentations from being mounted, they will more than likely come out if you ever end up driving on it.

Thanks! I wasn't searching the right keywords apparently.
That's an odd request, but not an issue I have plenty of both. The GF catches grasshoppers and feeds the spiders around the house so they are kinda bigger then normal.
It's not rubbing, it just making indentations. What concerns me is that when dismounted, they can be felt on the inside of the tire.

Indentions won't matter at all. Purely cosmetic.

    Why are you dismounting it?

On my last Tacoma it had 120,000 miles. I used the spare once at like 80,000. I have never checked on my spare.

It's all good. Just something most of us should probably check more than we do.

To see if it was rubbing the rubber or if it was actually leaving an impression. When there's a problem with something, I usually take it apart to see what happening on the inside. Is that not normal?
