The 3rd gen bed height is 1" taller so I wouldnt think so but I would give softopper a call. You will have to buy a new back window since it is curved vs flat for the 3rd gen.

For one trip, you think it wouldn't work? Will it look right, probably not. It will be a little short but should work fine I would think.

It might be a little lose for the entire softopper which isnt good bc that is when it will start flapping and could cause damage. The softopper is adjustable and might just stick up higher than the cab no more than an inch.

FYI I lose around 1 mpg when my softopper is on vs off.

This is about an 18-month old thread, but I had initially used some of the info posted here to help with my decision on a softopper, and since I have some updated info directly from Softopper I thought I would share it. From Softopper:

"Model TAC 60(B), which we sell for the 2016 and newer Gen 3, gets a different rear window and the curved rear bar to accommodate the larger tailgate. That is the only difference. They are the exact same frame, canopy, rails, clamps, etc.... The only difference is the rear window and curved rear bar.

Prior to 2015, we only had the TCCC60 model for the short bed Tacomas. In July of 2015, we designated that model only for the 2004 and older and developed the TAC 60 model to better fit the 2005 and new Gen 2.
The photos that you're seeing in that thread are of a TCCC60, which we haven't sold for the Gen 2 Tacoma since July 2015."

Hopefully this might help someone else.

    thx

@pabstsmeared from this thread and this post it seems like the 2nd gen topped would fit my 3rd gen.

I installed a 2nd gen ACLB Softopper on my 3rd gen DCLB yesterday. I am happy with it. The velcro on the tailgate went on the top instead of the back (painted area). That is actually better for future removal.

Any chance you can post a pic of fitment at the cab? I have a bead on a 2nd gen that I really don't want to pass up...

Also, do you by chance have the model #?

I sold it last week so I can't provide more pictures and I never had a model number. I thought it fit fine. To me it looked good. I gathered from this thread and others that only the rear changes from one model to the other so cab area fitment should be the same or super close.

Just FYI for anyone wondering fitment between 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen I contacted softopper directly and got answers. I also installed both on my 2nd truck and confirmed they are the same. The only difference is the replacement 3rd Gen rear panel ($79), rear panel curved bar ($12), and rear panel curved bar brackets ($7) plus shipping. Hope that helps someone out there! (In photo below the black one is 2nd Gen fitment and the tan one is 3rd Gen fitment)

I sold the tan one and kept the black one, but check out the "Softopper Group" on Facebook. I see them pop up for sale all the time on there!
