I want some of what you are smoking. None of that made a lick of sense to me straight. Maybe high it will?

I speak English, French, and autistic. So I can help translate:

    >>We are in the wrong market for Regular cabs. Frankly who cares, you can't let your kid drive in this country anymore due to nanny time. Maybe on your own property. Easy to drive and learn trucks are gone here.

Translation: I miss the good old days when you could teach your seven year old kid to drive on the highway while feeding him candy cigarettes and root beer.

    >>Too many folks want a lifted Corolla sized truck with a bed.

Not a fan of lifted regular cab Tacomas.

    >>There's all kinds of social reasons beyond the material, if you work at an enterprise and you drive something other than a 4 door without being the "big cheese"... bye bye promotion.

If you want to get ahead in this modern world you have to fit in by driving what everybody else drives.

    >>Marriage premium is also real.

Guys with lifted trucks get trophy wives.

    >>Image is everything, enter the mall crawler.

Brand new 8" lifted 3rd Gen Tacomas with 22" euro wheels that are sparkling clean are great bait for 17 year old frappuccino drinking mall babes. I prefer 1st gen muddy trucks that can scream up a 19º incline in 4th gear.

I am also fluent in road rage sign language if anyone needs help with that.

Love my 2010 single cab 2wd. It does what I need.

    Things I do..
-Drive to my desk job and back
-Drive around for my second job (occasionally hauling a few boxes of trophies and shirts)
-Here and there, do homeowner stuff.
    -Bring my bikes somewhere

    Things I don't do..
    -Haul a trailer
    -Plow
    -Go off-roading

I'm a married guy, no kids. I like my 21-23 mpg from a truck just fine.

I asked the same question as your subject question to this thread to my neighbor who has a regular cab and his answer was: "I see new Tacomas with a regular cab, so they haven't stopped making them".

I'd like a regular cab, I just want a pickup to have around though. They don't make the truck I want anymore. Can't get a new 2.7 5 speed and you couldn't pay me to take that 3.5 v6 with any transmission. I'd plop down all the cash, no finance, tomorrow if I could walk in the dealership and buy a 2.7, 5/6 speed manual regular cab. But alas, my days of new Tacomas seem to be done unless they bring out a better V6 or bring back the manual 4cyl combo.

I have a gut feeling that the 3.5 V6 will be in every V6 vehicle that toyota or lexus makes for a long time. A bunch of thier vehicles have them, and the next 4 runner will get it. Its cheaper for manufacturers to do a software package than it would be to manufacture multiple motors

Thanks, that's what I thought...I guess he thought the reg. cab he saw was a 3rd gen. He was surprised to know they stopped producing the 2.7l with a manual.

I am a toyota person. own a 17 camry. want to add a tacoma as a second vehicle. would like to find a reg cab 4x4 because i don't want to take the family along. i just don't like the idea of 4 door trucks. don't like the look of the cab being longer than the box. like the regular cab short box anything. am considering an access cab to get the v6 though. and I could fit my dog better. not sure how much I need the 4x4 but like the looks of a 4x4 better. maybe would consider a pre runner. also wonder if i should stay away from buying an 05-10 because of the rust recall. any thoughts or advice to help with my decision are welcome.

Here’s my single cab 2wd beast. I picked this 2004 up in the spring for $4500...80,000 miles, v-6, 8 ft bed, no frills...used for my son’s lawn business, couldn’t be happier with it.4D356200-E417-4998-9528-99FD7D086EEA.jpg

Getting back the OP's question, I think one has to look at the definition of a "collector's item." There are lots of people that collect "stuff." Does that make them "collectors" and everything they collect "collectable?" I kind of doubt it - in most cases.

True collectors items are - generally speaking - things that were made in relatively low volumes. Although the number of regular cab Tacomas built over the years is low when compared to the other cab configurations, they still made a ton of them. So no, I don't think they will become true collectors items. That said, I'd still love to get one because they're so much fun to drive!

    No they will not.

They stopped making them because not enough people liked them.

At least you appreciate the irony. And those are 33” mudders!

Collectible, no. Sought after, sure. Same reason Ford is done with cars next year. The market dictates what the market wants. By and large that’s trucks and SUVs of all sizes. If a major manufacturer can cut out a segment as big as cars, surely cutting out regular cabs ain’t a big thing.
