I'm thinking of changing the suspension on my SR5 to the Off Road Bilsteins. I'm thinking I can get the suspension for $150 or less. SO, is it worth it? How much can I expect to pay to switch them out? Any advice/experience is greatly appreciated.

It cost me around $500.00 to have my suspension upgrade installed and alligned. If you get stock like new take offs for cheap, might be worth it. If you do the work yourself, then yes. Check after market parts price, @HeadStrong Off-Road , Bilstein 5100’s are a nice upgrade. I did both front and rear upgrade, springs and shocks.

Was there a noticeable difference in the ride?

Much better, firm, not harsh. Better cornering. Got about 2” off lift. Talk to Marie at Headstrong Off Road, very knowledgable on Tacoma’s. If you’re going to do it, do it right.

did that to my sr5. paid dealer 475.00 to install & align. definite improvement. Headstrong had the best prices on 5100's.

The blue and yellow Off Road Bilsteins are a definite improvement from the SR/SR5 suspension. It's not too noticable on pavement but on rutted up gravel and off road it's better.

I paid about $300 (including shipping across the country for OR takeoffs with less than 2500mi on them, I was willing to pay more for low miles.

Not sure what install would cost, it's fairly easy to DIY if you're familiar with tools and can follow instructions. Got the alignment done for free at Firestone because I had already bought the lifetime alignments.

The shocks and coilovers are just nuts and bolts. You need a jack and jack stands, a basic metric socket and wrench set and if you wish to be anal a torque wrench. It’s a decent project to cut your wrenching teeth on. No alignment should be necessary after since you don’t need to mess with the cam bolts. Just disconnect the tie rod end and sway bar end link and there is plenty of room to swap out the front coilover.

Otherwise you are going to pay at least double the cost of the parts in labor. But that’s ok, mechanics need to eat too and not everyone is handy with tools.
