What a great way to celebrate John’s 40th Birthday Extravaganza!
We had four 3rd gens, 2 second gens and 2 first gens. Five of us met at the Conoco at HWYs 67 and 85. We snaked our way down to Rainbow Falls to meet up with the Colorado Springs contingent in their 3 shiny 3rd gens.
I only got one group photo at the end when we aired up and couldn't get @Sub-Zero and @Wulf hiding behind the others.

    IMG_1583.jpg

We took FS344 Illinois Gulch to the Moab Hill playground where @johntoyota climbed like a veteran and @Sub-Zero showed off his 37s:

I tried the "easier" route I tried last year. It is more rutted this year. I failed to be easy on the skinny pedal again and BONK! Got rejected by a stair step.
Made it up with some wise guidance from @YamaDirtrider and @Sub-Zero.
    IMG_1573.jpg

    IMG_1574.jpg

@Wulf took a bold line and got his rear tire airborne.
    IMG_1577a.jpg

We continued on Illinois Gulch to FS348B to FS348 (Long Hollow) to FS348C to FS347 (Missouri Gulch). The trails presented dry, mud, and snow surfaces with no ice.
    IMG_1581.jpg

Then @CO MTN Steve 's prophesy came true. I missed the turn at FS347C and we were LLMF.

Well not really, we just continued on FS347 and ended up on HWY 67 a few miles south then planned. Worked out for the Colorado Springs guys as they were closer to home.

We aired up and a few of us ended up at the Turkey Track Road shooting range.
@Sub-Zero let me shoot a handgun for the second time in my life and a shotgun!

    What a great day!

Hi there, i know the trails in the San Juan region (ouray, telluride, silverton) close usually around the end of September. But when do they normally open? Is it May or so? June?

For the high passes, they try for 4th of July, but don't always make it.

one thing is that the Federal stuff is all closed from the shutdown. we tried to take my daughter first to Mesa Verde then to the local museum and they were both closed cus they're govt funded. probably not an issue with regular trails.
